Michael Vick to Be Reinstated After Four Game Suspension

According to Don Banks of SI.com, Michael Vick and Roger Goodell had a sit-down chat today in New Jersey to talk about his future with the NFL.

Now according to ESPN and PFT.com, Goodell has tentatively decided that Vick will be conditionally reinstated, then suspended for the first four games of the 2009 season.

A conditional reinstatement is what we saw with Pacman Jones last offseason. He was allowed to attend training camp and go to practice, but wasn't guaranteed that he wouldn't be suspended for a few games.

While Jones did not get further suspension, Vick will not be so lucky.

According to the reports, Goodell has decided to suspend Vick for the first month of the 2009 NFL season. Really, that's about the best that Vick could have hoped for.

Considering the fact that Vick lied about what he was doing, was caught doing it, then spent nearly two years in a federal prison because of it, four games may be light. Especially considering the iron fist that Goodell has pounded into the NFL and its players several times before.

Will Vick find a new team? That has yet to be seen as no team has stepped up and said, "Yes, we have interest in Michael Vick." Well, no NFL team anyway.

The Orlando franchise of the UFL currently holds his rights were he to give up on the NFL (or more likely, have the NFL give up on him) and come play for the UFL.

The UFL doesn't seem to have much of a chance at Vick any longer considering their contract lasts until November 28, long after Vick's NFL suspension would be up. Also, on top of all that, the UFL would only be able to pay a fraction of what Vick would be making in the NFL.

While this is obviously not set in stone, this appears to be the most probable course of action for the league at this point.

When this is finalized, Vick will be able to sign with any team willing to take a chance on him. The only question is, does such a team exist?

 

as an animal lover i hate what vick did concerning the dog fighting...considering where he is from the backassward south i don't believe that he saw it as animal cruelty...he has paid his debt in federal prison which i'm pretty sure wasn't exactly a picnic for a man that had lived a pretty recent charmed life...let's play football...the broncos sure could use a good QB but they would never take on the media circus that will surround any team willing to sign vick...

 

I hope my job is still there if I ever get sent to federal prison.

I totally agree.We all make mistakes at times.Some more crucial than others and being an object of public interest makes all worse of course.
I'm all for a 2nd chance and hopes he has learned a lesson

Sure, your job would be 'waiting' for you IF you had the skill set of less than 0.5 % of the human population...that's just the way it is...

I completely agree. This would afford him the opportunity to play QB for a season to shake the rust off. Then NFL teams can see what his QB skill set looks like after time away from the league.

The UFL ends around Thanksgiving...an NFL team could sign him then...we'll see.

 

You got that right. It won't take Broncos fans very long to realize how mediocre Kyle Orton truly is. He is inaccurate, and he cannot complete deep passes to save his life. Not even Brandon Marshall + Eddie Royal will be able to help him in this.

 

And yes, i agree that Vick should play and start in the UFL to showcase his talents before re-entering the NFL.

He's one of my favorite quarterbacks in the NFL.

 

Everybody's expendable. The NFL did just great without him.

The difference between the organization that I work for and the organization that Mike Vicks works for is his is a lot more public. He and the organization that he represents is under the public eye and faces a much harsher judgement than me. I'm not saying that he does not deserve a second chance in general., just not sure that I'd grant him a second chance at the NFL or any major public facing org. I felt the same way about Pacman Jones, I felt the same way about Tank Johnson, and I feel the same way about Donte' Stallworth. Society needs to hold 'stars' to as high, if not a higher moral standard than us simple people.

 

PS: He is a shitty quarterback.

 

Agreed...add him to the list of shitty NFL QB's...the list is kinda long. I don't dig him as an NFL QB, I'm just saying that you can't hate on him because teams my hire him for his services....that's all.

Shit, I don't want him, either. His passing game was weak before he left. I'm just saying that there will be a team interested in his services....sooner or later.

 

I have always loved animals but..

I had dogs, hamsters,birds,fish,snakes,turtles,mice,even a scorpion.
Some of the things he did to those dogs are very disturbing.

What I find more disturbing is that Leona Helmsley left millions of dollars to her dog vice donating her money to that fine St. Judes in New York. Dogs now have their own airline! Homeless kids have no food here in America, but many people have provided a good meal and beds for their animal.

So is the outrage truly directed in the right direction?

 

Me too. When the PETA freaks come out, I hope whatever team signs him, stands behind him. He's paid his debt to society. Time to move on.
