This is a French film that has just hit American shores. One of its stars is a gorgeous knockout (Louise Bourgoin) who I think is making her film debut.

Another star is Roschdy Zem who plays the bodyguard Christophe who has a history with The Girl. Christophe also happens to be black. Now of course he is light skinned so a few folks on this board will discount him immediately. But, hey, he's a black actor who is also playing a black character in the film. Some folks will just have to get over it. Christophe looks a little bit like Obama btw.

Anyway looking at the trailer I thought regardless of the film's quality (some critics love it, some don't) it would be unimaginable for a guy like Denzel to play the role of Christophe with a young white actress in the mix. Not in Hollywood.

This is a good find, Jamal. But you're correct on all counts here. No way would Hollywood do this clean of a romantic movie with a ww and ANY brotha for that matter. Plus, I don't think the American audience here honestly has the same "since of humor" about this type of flick like those europeans do. The girl would be Kate Hudson or somebody like that and they wouldn't make her so bubbly and inviting. That's why I'm grateful for the internet each and every day so that I can find these types of gems where Hollywood simply won't even consider doing.

As for the brotha, no offense, but I would not have pegged him for black had you not mentioned it first. That said, I won't discount him considering race is race regardless of where us negroes go. Again, good post man.

 

The movie would be better with 2 things:

1. Get rid of the white guy

2. Wish the black guy was darker and not mixed

This movie has the "Magic Negro" story.

 

Just as long the man is Black and not a dark skinned white.

Roschdy Zem is an actor french Jewish Moroccan born on 27 September1965 in Gennevilliers (France).

 

I'm disappointed I thought he was biracial.
