As someone who has never done any kind of drug (including alcohol) I am always baffled as to why someone would want to dull their senses, kill brain cells, damage their lungs, and risk other maladies, just for a sense of euphoria. Not to mention the fact that it is illegal. Can someone explain this to me, I am not judging (seriously im not) just curious as to the reasoning.

When I used to get high (which is about 456 years ago) it ususally was stuff like Frank Zappa - it usually made us rolling of laughter, especially Jewish Princess I have no idea why.
.. or Yes (which I NEVER listened to otherwise)
    or Doors or Johnny Thunders

Edit: Loki - for many people it is an escape mechanism or at least how it many times starts. I dont say all but for some, there is probably 100 reasons why.
It was for me, to "get away" and to punish my parents (yes, silly, I know) - although it really wasnt my thing as I got uncomfortable having a drug having control over me- and thus I havent touched the stuff in eons.
I also felt an enormous amount of guilt and that is part of what eventually made me stop.

You live in a glass house don't you?:smt042

Simply because people are gonna do what they wanna do no matter what. I'm sure that you have vices of your own that others might question. Nobody's perfect, we all have things that we like to do.

    We're ALL hypocrites.:smt023

Hmmm, you seem to be taking this personally, not my intent. I certainly never claimed to be perfect, just interested as to the underlying decision making process that goes into what is undeniably self-destructive behavior.

For the record, cannabis should not be illegal. Sometimes the lawmakers DO get it wrong.

    Step 1) Decriminalize it
    - Inmate currently in the system for distribution or handling of it will remain.
    Step 2) Legalize it
Step 3) Let the government regulate it
Step 4) Tax the hell out of it
    Step 5) Profit
    Step 6) Thank Jaisee

Everything you do in life has a risk. Personally I believe life is short, you may as well. Of course I know of the health risks, but everytime you go in a car or plane you're at risk of crashing. Anytime you go out the house without sun cream you're increasing your risk of cancer.

I'd rather be on my death bed at 50 thinking of all the awesome things I've done and accomplished than be on it at 90 thinking of how I did absolutely nothing but lived an extra 40 years. It's quality over quantity for me.

I like to drink because I find it fun. I find getting high fun too. I've tried other things that I didn't enjoy so I don't do them. That's basically it.

Anyway, when I get high nothing beats some reggae or some Mef N Red.

Interesting response, thank you. I would agree that life without taking risks would be very boring, however there certainly are many risks that can be taken in life that are not damaging to and in fact even good for your health.

Seems like all of the health risks listed there are the result of smoking anything.

So long as marijuana is illegal, most people will consume it by smoking it, although there are other safer methods of consumption like vaporizers.

If it was legalized, there'd be every opportunity to make smoking marijuana as socially unacceptable as smoking cigarettes, while promoting healthier alternatives, thus eliminating just about every negative effect you mentioned.

Interesting perspective, how would consuming by vaporizer be safer?

For starters, you're not inhaling the toxic chemicals in marijuana directly into your lungs? Second, since vaporizers require higher levels of heat I'd imagine a lot of the chemicals are burned in the vaporization process?

It heightens your senses (not dulls them)
    - Taste is more intense / food tastes better
    - Smell is more intense / flowers smell better
    - touch is more intense / sex feels better. So do backrubs. So do warm showers. So do snuggly blankets

    It helps you focus intently
    - Pressure from multiple sources is eased long enough to pay attention to one positive or distracting thing
    - insecurities and multiple distractions melt and you can concentrate, for instance on work

    Everything is funnier

    It relieves pain

    It helps you sleep

It doesn't give you a hangover, make you mean or sick, or drastically impair your judgement.

Actually, it's a lower level of heat -- just below the heat required for burning. Most of the chemicals related to smoking occur when the joint is set on fire. If you heat marijuana to just below these level, the THC is released without any smoke. You're not actually inhaling smoke, you're inhaling THC-laced air.

Inhaling smoke is always bad, be it nicotene, cloves or marijuana.

Vaporizers are more like roasting the weed -- a really small, happy thanksgiving.

Because people are gonna do what they wanna do. If you don't like it then don't choose to partake in it.
