Casting in the "Last Airbender" raises protests:

NOt to mention the awful Dragonball Z movie, among others, where white actors replace Asian characters in movies and film.

Thankfully, black people "stands out" from the crowd for whites to replace black characters in movies. The only major film that has happened in recent times was in "Spawn" where Terry Fitzgerald was played by a white actor.

Really sad that this practice still goes on in Hollywood. But not entirely shocking either. "They" generally claim that it helps to bring in a larger audience with white characters plus race isn't supposed to matter that much. But it does matter. Especially since M. Night is asian himself, right???(Indian)

Eh, I don't think anybody who makes millions of dollars for pretending to be someone else can say they really have it rough.

Pfft. They always gotta fuck up movies with bad casting. I guess because animes and mangas generally have white American looking characters, filmmakers think they can do it in a live film adaptation. At least in the Tekken movie, they have Asian actors playing the Asian characters.

I can see it now: Aaron Carter as Naruto Uzamaki
    Miley Cyrus as Sakura Haruno
One of the Jonas Brothers as Sasuke Uchiha

The white looking characters can be pulled off in manga and anime, because it's done so often, but the other way around in a live movie, hell no. At least there are Japanese voice actors to make people remember that fact that while the characters look white, they are actually Japanese.

You're kinda late on that one....

Hollywood has been doing that since forever, if you need concrete evidence check out a film series known as Short Circuit.

"Hollywood Chinese", which debuted on PBS last month, was an excellent source of information on this very subject. When Chinese actors began to receive roles they had to study white actors' stereotypical impersonations fit these parts.
