Thanks guys :smt023, I'm going to get my sister to take some progress pics every week or so. I need to find my tape measure so that I can measure how much I lose (hopefully).

    I have a question:

Right, I do squats right now with light weights. Should I be using heavier weights and doing less reps or lighter weights and more reps? I am scared of going heavier because if I stick to it I don't want to be really muscular and masculine looking (LOL)... I know that would be months away, but I'm sure you get what I mean.

I started some tabata workout thing, I wanted to PUKE after that lol. I was at the gym with my friend and he does it. I feel so sore all over too. I never even knew I had muscles in these places. I was doing it with squats to start with then burpees. Awful, just awful. It's supposed to be good though. Towards the end I could feel that my form was going and I wasn't able to do them probably.

light weights with hi reps for toning/conditioning

it's what I used to do when I took aerobics

my instructor always told us 'make sure you pick a weight you can do a lot of reps with'

    ;)

    she wasn't lyin either

however, some women like to go heavy with squats, to add more shape and size to their butt, so it depends on what you want

Cheers, I'm now down to 9 stone 1, which is 127lbs. Still would ideally wanna lose 7lbs, but I'll be happy if I lose two more.

Good for you LS, that is a great accomplishment. I have to say though, from the pics I've seen you don't appear to need to lose any weight at all.

Since last Saturday, I've been going to the new weight room in my apartment complex--everyday. I do 20-30 minutes on the treadmill and 10 minutes on the weights (bench press, lat pulldown, etc.)

I'm only starting out as it seems I'm the only brotha who was sooooo out of shape on here. LOL.

my apartment complex doesnt have an exercise facility, although sometimes i wish it did..

so I had to bring the gym to my place..

good you're starting to exercise tho, because in general, it's good for your health..

PLUS, the ladies will appreciate your new found stamina in the sack

    ;)

Heard about an interesting fitness workout today that includes starting at the top of the minute and doing:

    10 push ups
    10 sit ups
    10 squats

You then rest till the top of the next minute and start again. So if it takes you 30 seconds to complete, you get 30 seconds rest; If it takes 45 seconds then 15 seconds rest.

Do this cycle for 30 minutes.

I had the gym at my place, I was just too lazy to go. I now have discipline to do my free weights and jump rope...must do that before 8AM though.

I wan never athletic at all, but I need to make the change for myself. I have too many goals in my life. Plus, I want to be able to do more things.
I need to have energy if I am to pursue a film career.

You don't lie. From Fat Albert to Superman. LOL

I've been trying to lose inches and get my waistline down from about 33 inches to where it was five years ago (28 to 29 inches). So far I'm down about an inch but I still have a ways to go.

No weight room work during the summer...I only do that from September through March/April. Summer time is for burning calories and dropping inches...at least for me. The key to my roadwork is a series of sprints at the end and at least 5 to 10 minutes of stretching.

I posted the below in another thread but moved it here as it is more fitting.
I really would like some advice (I have edited it a bit)
    -------------
After that discussion about body types earlier in the thread, I got curious...
I took a test on a bodybuilder website as I work out quite a bit, I have to watch out as I easily tend to put on muscles, 2 years ago, I had 11% body fat and had serious guns, but lost my boobs though (and I was eating about 3400 calories a day to not lose weight, crazy).

I was not too happy with the lack of body fat and feminine curves, but loved the muscles - so I backed off the intensity and stopped the hard diet regimen of 50% prot 25%/25% fat/carb, but still eat low glycemic index food and very healthy.

So the guns are gone, my boobs are back.

Im not happy with this either as I like muscles, I cant find a good medium - Like I said, I put on muscles very easily and it acctually creates a problem in itself - I am a petite person so any changes shows so I have found it hard to find that happy medium in diet/exercise
I wanted some advice on this..

    Anyone with ideas?

    Your score is 2.17.

Your body is closest to a Mesomorph. You have a naturally fit body but to maintain it or improve it you should exercise and diet correctly for your type. Strength training can be done more often and for longer sessions then would be good for an Ectomorph, but you must still be carefull not to overdo it. You should train with moderate to heavy weighs and at a moderate pace, not resting too long between sets. You will find you gain muscle quite easy (some women and even men might not want to get too bulky, but this won't happen suddenly. When you are happy with your muscle size simply train to maintain it). Stick to a good healthy diet to keep you lean and muscular, and watch for any slow creeping fat gains. Engage in and enjoy aerobic activities, sports, etc. but do not overdo.

Sounds like me. How many days a week do you workout?

Before I did weights 5 days a week and cardio three.

Then I scaled way back, but that is when I lost my guns.

about 6 weeks ago - I started to do 300-400 crunches and about 25-50 push-ups (diff variants) a day - varied with squats/lunges and upper body 3 days per week (very limited and simple program), but I already have started to build my guns back - and I really dont want to lose my feminine parts this time - so I dont know where my limit is at all as I have been a work out rat all my life and really didnt know I had curves util I stopped working out 2 years ago...
I wanna keep my curves, but even on this limited work-our regimen have I in 6 weeks started to get muscle (not legs, just upper body). That is good, but Im afraid I loose my curves in the process.
    Im scatching my head here.

    What do you do/eat?

    Run/elliptical/arc
    resistance training
    lots of ab work

I follow the Mediteranean diet pyramid mostly. I add in donuts, coke, chocolate and prime rib as needed. :D

If I work out more that 3-4 days a week I get muscular/very skinny. My body seems to be more manly if I workout too much. You can even see it in your face. So I just hold back on how many days I workout. That is hard because I am kind of addicted to running and the high.

Here is my score on the test...similar to you:

Hmmm... very similar indeed - we should work out together:)

I am contemplating abadoning weights for the most part (although that is what I love and get a kick out of) and start doing more yoga/pilates stuff and cardio - but I dont know if that is good either - as I always lifted weighst, I dont know anything else.

I dont drink soft drinks or even beer (cept on occations) I dont eat sweets or desserts but I have added popcorn etc to my diet:)
For the most part I suspect our diets are very similar.
I eat fish/chicken/turkey - but not red meat - lots of veggies, avoid cheap carbs, but do add rice and pasta in moderation and I separate carbs from protein - I dont eat it at the same time for the most part.

This pic is taken 2 years ago - see - absolutely no boobs or hips - although I loved my shoulders and arms, I dont wanna loose the feminine curves this time

We would be perfect. We could remind each other to not workout too much and after workouts go chow down together. You are very buff in that shot.

I won't put up a new bodyshot but here mine from the old picture thread.

    Yeah!!!
However, we might acctually have the opposite effect - spurring eachother on to build more muscle rather than less, lol.
I have a fierce competitive nature you see, and I suspect you do to:)

We would have a spectacular time chowing down however, I eat like a horse though, no bird stuff:)

Aewesome pic, you look sooo buff!!!!
    I must add rep!!!:smt109
