    Observation...

It seems like most "black" music consists of relatively slow beats and pacing while "white" music is quicker in tempo

    Ex: black = 1........2........3........4
    white = 1..2..3..4..5..6..7..8..9

I know it sounds dumb...but I'm hoping someone can back me on this so I don't fashion myself as a loon.

What do you mean white music? Like pop music/chart music?

I disagree, I listen to a lot of funky house, grime, garage and dancehall. The beat to these is pretty fast.

Maybe so...I think it has more to do with what is played in clubs I've been to..slower, grinding-type black music and quicker, pulsating white music...not so much music in general...just at particular spots.

Holy Hell, most popular music is -

1-2-3-4; repeat, I don't know where you got that from Chosen, I'm DJ remember...

House/Trance/Techno/Whatever is "4 On The Floor"

The sequencer counts 4 measures and repeats...

No matter what you TRY to do and do try, most Rap/R&B/Disco/Soul/Funk is 4 beats per measure.

With Rap being sped up all of sudden the lines between House and Rap is being blurred again and your seeing the rebirth of "Hip House" in a sense.

As far as dance I do a fair job, this has been brought up before. There moves you do by yourself and theirs things you do with partners depending on level of talent.

Personally I like a woman that can move because having rhythm carries over into so many other things...

BTW, how can you NOT dance??????

Oh how I would love to be the fly in the wall where some of you non-dancing people go... Can you say C-O-R-N-Y

I repeat, just listen too it...

    Rock goes - 1-2-3-4; Repeat

Black Music (All of it) - 1-2-3-4; Repeat

    House/Trance/BreakBeat/Chicago/Italio House/Jungle - 1,2,3,4; Repeat

    Country Music goes 1-2-3-4; Repeat

So what do you listen that doesn't go ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR?

    Hmmm -

    Funky House?

"Anything You Say" - Michelle Shaprow

"Take Good Care Of Me - Franck Roger featuring Arnold Jarvis

Grime? Not sure what that is...

Garage Old School or New School?

Old School - "My Heart Skips a Beat" - The Cover Girls

New School - "Free" (Armand Van Helden Remix) - Ultra Nate

    Dancehall?

I'll have to get back to you on that....

Sometimes beats sound slower because there may be fewer high hats per bar/measure, but may still be fairly fast paced.

Why complain? At least she said yes instead of no. I will tolerate one that can't and be patient about it. I don't care if she is buzzed because she put a effort to it.

I think what Chosen was talking about was tempo, measured
in beats per minute. The beats are still in that 4/4 signature,
but they hit faster. You can have a song at a tempo of 120
beats per minute, 160, 80, any amount really. Basically,
the more beats per minute, the faster the song sounds.

DJ4Monie I think is talking about the time signature of the
music. Like he said, pretty much all club music is in a 4/4
time signature (or 1-2-3-4 repeat as it's been called here).
Makes it that much easier to sync one song with another.
Music genres that immediately come to mind that do not
follow the 4/4 are classical and waltz. (Could be one reason
why they aren't heard in clubs so much.)

    Enough of my nerdery.

Back on topic, a little while ago I saw this girl dancing
like a slow trance style at a hip-hop club in Scottsdale.
Arms up in the air. Eyes closed. Fluid movements. Amazing.
She flowed so well with the music. And it was a strong
contrast to everyone else bopping and two stepping to hard
beats. Maybe it looked like she couldn't dance to some in
    that environment.

I could never get into the whole trance style of dancing as its so disconnected from human interaction as your trying to make a connection with the music.

There is a club in Scottsdale? lol

When we were in high school, and I had already become infatuated with my current husband, I went through great efforts (with the help of several of my friends) to find myself at the right place and the right time to dance with him at our school's homecoming dance.

Finally I was there, and suddenly I realized I couldn't really dance. Not very well. I mean, okay, but certainly not well enough to dance with a senior (I was a sophmore). It didn't help that I was so twitterpated that as soon as I got close to him I could no longer hear the music or notice anyone else in the room or, well, think.

I tried to stop and run off about a half dozen times, I even said once "I'm sorry, I don't know what I'm doing, I'm dancing terribly, I'll just go." He wouldn't let me run away, however, just kept reassuring me, and we kept dancing.

    Nowadays I'm a great dancer. :D
