WASHINGTON – An elderly gunman opened fire inside the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday, wounding a security guard before two other guards returned fire. The assailant and his victim were both hospitalized. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known, U.S. Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090610/ap_on_re_us/us_holocaust_museum_shooting
So sad. The security has died and they're investigating a White Supremacist as the suspect. Unbelievable that someone would do that. RIP.
The killer was 89 years old! WTF is wrong with people? Here's the story from the Chicago Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...,5765488.story?track=email-alert-breakingnews
This is exactly the kind of lone nutcase I had in mind when I posted the post below a few months back. This guy was an associate and follower of William Pierce, from CNN; "Beirich told CNN, he had become a "hardcore neo-Nazi" and an associate of William Pierce -- the white supremacist leader whose 1978 book, "The Turner Diaries," is credited with inspiring Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh." I will say it again IR community, lets be aware out there, not paranoid, just aware. Let's be aware out there According to Amazon, there has been a recent spike in orders for this dangerous trash. This novel specifically targets BM/WW couples. Very concerning that they found this novel at Terry Nichols house after the Ok. City bombing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunter_(novel) Hunter (novel) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Hunter Author Andrew Macdonald Cover artist Douglas Grigar Country United States Language English Genre(s) Political novel Publisher National Vanguard Books Publication date 1989 Media type print (paperback) Pages 259 ISBN ISBN 0-937944-09-2 (paperback) Hunter is a 1989 novel written by William Luther Pierce, the late founder and chairman of the National Alliance, a white nationalist group, under the pseudonym Andrew Macdonald. Pierce also used this pseudonym to write the better-known The Turner Diaries, a 1978 novel with similar themes. Some consider Hunter a prequel to the Turner Diaries. Hunter portrays the actions of Oscar Yeager (anglicization of jäger, German for hunter), a Vietnam veteran F-4 Phantom pilot and Washington D.C.-area Defense Department consultant who embarks on a plan of targeted assassinations of interracial couples and public figures advocating racial civil rights in the D.C. area. Yeager's activities quickly lead to broad national repercussions and draw him into the plans of both a "white nationalist" group and an ambitious FBI official to take advantage of the turmoil he has helped to start. Hunter shares with The Turner Diaries Pierce's depiction of the United States as overrun by liberalism and covertly dominated by Jews. His depictions of, and the attitudes of the protagonists towards Jews, African-Americans, Latinos, and Asians mirror Pierce's and the National Alliance's ideology. Hunter reveals more didactically and directly this ideology than did The Turner Diaries. At the novel's beginning, the protagonist is a nonideological racist unattached to anti-Semitism. He gradually develops his ideology and perspectives during his campaign and through contact with the allies that he meets. Much of the story's dialogue consists of discussion and debate on the "Jewish question." Federal agents found a copy of the book while searching the residence of Terry Nichols after the Oklahoma City bombing. Contents
I was reading this story on The Huffington Post and Foxnews.com and I checked out the comments. It's just amazing that left and right wing posters could blame everyone else but the shooter. According to them, Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Cheney, Obama, Christians, Islam, Farrakhan, white people, Arabs, and everyone else and their momma are to blame. The only person to blame is the shooter
There's been three killings in the past week by extremists: the murder of the abortion provider, the soldier by an American Muslim, and this. Two examples of right-wing extremism and one of Islamic radicalism. If you recall, there was a report earlier this year by the Department of Homeland Security that predicted a rise in activity by right-wing extremists.
I didn't see in the article if he was armed to kill more people. Thank God the Security Guards reacted quickly before he could start some kind of spree. DC has some of the most strict gun-control laws in the nation. I'm surprised he was able to get a weapon into that museum.
It turns out that this guy, like the man who assassinated Dr. Tiller, was an active member of Free Republic. After lurking on that site for the past few years, I can't say that I'm surprised.
Generalize much? The Arkansas recruiting center assassin is Islamic. I suppose you will condemn that entire religion while you're at it?
What kind of nonsensical retort is that? I think there's a teensy bit of difference between my lack of surprise at the fact that a couple of lunatics who committed heinous acts of violence because of their far right political ideology were members of a particular right wing internet forum where unabashed bigotry and threats of violence towards people who are different are commonplace among its denizens is a bit different than condemning an entire religion and the billion plus people who subscribe to it based on the actions of one Muslim fanatic, don't you? I'm assuming that you actually do, but for some reason have mistaken a condemnation of right wing extremism for one of conservatism in general. Now, if we're talking about specifically condemning Islamic fundamentalists, their skewed interpretation of their religion and their use of barbarity to achieve their ends, then I'm all on board.
Congratulations on scripting what is no doubt the longest sentence in the history of this site. Take a breath and relax. Then realize that all who post on Free Repubic are not white supremacist assassins. I am quite sure you understood my point.
Are all Freepers murderers? Certainly not. However, there are surfeits of bigots, religious zealots and half-cocked loons in their ranks, and the craziness over there has been ratcheted up to a new level since Obama took the oath.
I am well aware. Similarly, liberal sites such as Democratic Underground (where I lurk from time to time), host plenty of wing-nuts of the leftist variety, and they were quite rabid during the past administration.
LOL @ "wing-nuts of the leftist variety." You can't possibly think they're as hateful and dangerous as right-wingers? All these people shooting abortion doctors and blowing shit up (McVeigh) are right-wing extremists.
I've frequented DU and several other left leaning forums since the run up to the 2004 Presidential election. There was a lot of anger from Liberals directed at the right during the Bush years, but it usually manifested itself in incessant calls for the prosecution of Bush, Cheney, Rove et al, castigation of the pusillanimous Democratic leadership, snarky jokes and the occasional profanity laced tirade. IMO I never saw the same type of vitriol that I've seen on FR and a few other sites expressed by Liberals.
I don't know karma, you tell me: Gay threats target Christians over same-sex marriage ban Posted: November 05, 2008 Decisions by voters in Florida, Arizona and California to join residents of 27 other states with constitutional protections for traditional marriage have prompted threats of violence against Christians and their churches. "Burn their f---ing churches to the ground, and then tax the charred timbers," wrote "World O Jeff" on the JoeMyGod blogspot today within hours of California officials declaring Proposition 8 had been approved by a margin of 52 percent to 48 percent. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?pageId=80220
