Dr. George Tiller known as "Tiller the baby killer" famous for late term abortions was murdered today. May he rest in peace. Bill O'Reilly will be blamed for this one.
It is sad indeed. Expect O'Reilly would spin this on his show tomorrow. He would blame "extreme" elements for the doctor's murder.
WICHITA, Kan. – Prominent late-term abortion provider George Tiller was shot and killed Sunday in a Wichita church where he was serving as an usher, his attorney said. Tiller's Women's Health Care Services clinic is one of just three in the nation where abortions are performed after the 21st week of pregnancy. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090531/ap_on_re_us/us_tiller_shooting
This could be a dangerous trend. The same fanatics who did this in a church may also be crazy enough to kill the President of the United States who many of them believe is an abortion President. Watch your back Obama.
Come on Cris, anybody who would judge 300 million people by the actions of a single individual would be the stupid one. America has a strong image abroad.
Sir Nose, I personally like you as an individual, but sometimes you come off as an obtusely naive individual. Now admittedly, most of the time it's innocent, but naivete is naivete. First of all, America does not have a strong image abroad. If it did, then I fail to understand why people in many parts of Asia, Africa and even Europe hate our guts and want to see us fail; in fact, many of these people are actively fighting against the United States and her "allies" - Taliban, anyone? Now in all fairness, much of this antipathy towards the U.S. of A is derived from Bush fatigue and his administration's policy of unilateralism, preemption and its general my-way-or-the-highway ethos when it comes to foreign relations. I do believe that when it comes down to it, most foreigners don't hate Americans as individuals, but I do believe they certainly despise our ways of life, many of which if we are to be honest about, are not all that flattering. I mean, we account for more than 50% of worldwide military spendingbut can't even put fucking roofs over schools in goddamn South Carolina. We take so much pleasure in buying the latest fashion items, see home ownership as a must despite the fact that we're not economically all on equal footing and have a very insatiable quest for material goods, yet many of us Americans don't even have $5,000 to their own names or better yet, don't have health insurance. We insist of dictating to other nations about the virtues of "democracy", "liberty" and "justice" meanwhile we have a prison population the size of many Caribbean islands, the government can decide that certain people are less deserving of marriage than others and we get people in our home states to decide for us who we want to be our commander-in-chief. In the United States, there are more than 200 million firearms and the amount of deaths by firearms outnumbers that of all of the Western European nations put together. I could go on and on about the uncomfortable but apparent hypocrisy of our democracy, but these are precisely the reasons that foreigners despise some of our ethics and ways of life. We love to lecture people about what is good and bad, meanwhile we've got logs in our own eyes waiting for someone to pull it out. And going back to gun crimes, they are not as you put it, "the actions of a single individual." Okay, maybe in this case, it perhaps was. But everyday, young children and even some more mature people get murdered by fellow Americans in the home city of the President of the United States. Over 90% of the weapons used by Mexican cartels come from the United States, that is how much the arms industry runs deeply entrenched. So, it would be perhaps unwise to see this thing as an isolated incident. It is a constant reminder that perhaps the best way to solve complex and controversial issues is by logic and reason, rather than irrational actions and emotion only.
My experience abroad indicates otherwise. America is well-respected, even when there are disagreements. Bush was disliked by many but respected by most. Make no mistake, Americas image remains very powerful indeed. They follow our elections over here closer than they follow their own. Even the primaries. They know all about what is going on in the US because they are interested. They know the good and the bad. When some kooks kills someone and when Tiger Woods wins the Masters. Terrorists like the Taliban despise the American (western) way of life because they want to suppress freedom.
