Right now, some Army or Marine general is sitting around, scratching his chin, contemplating how such lasers can be used in the field of battle.

How do you defend against that?

I wonder what the critics of President Reagan's Strategic Defense Intiative (SDI) or Star Wars as the media labled it think now. The Union of Concerned Scientists said back in the 1980's that this was a fantasy and that lasers and the computing capability to power ground and space based weapons would never work. Where are the critics now. The same kind of people who said if man wanted to fly then god would have given him wings. If there is a will there is a way.

pettyofficerj, it will be interesting to see what we will do with such a technological breakthrough. Are we going to sit on it or are we going to use it as a deterrence. I think now is the time to give the world a demonstration of what we can do like Reagan did in the 1980's when they knocked that missile out of space with a anti-missile missile and the test where a missile was fired from an F-15 fighter and knocked that satillite out of space. It was said that the Soviets at the time were in an outrage that Reagan did such a thing. I still believe it was President Reagan's threat to militarize space that helped in bringing down the Soviets who tried to keep up in spending in defense, but ultimately bankrupt themselves. We need a new Reagan in spirit President Obama. The world is testing you. They think you are weak.
