James Brown's estate divided between charity, widow, and children

COLUMBIA, S.C. - More than two years into a battle over how to parcel out James Brown's wealth, a South Carolina judge okayed a settlement Tuesday that gives nearly half his assets to a charitable trust, a quarter to his widow and young son, and the rest to Brown's adult children.

The Godfather of Soul's will was called into question soon after Brown died of heart failure on Christmas Day 2006. His last wife challenged the will when she was left out and Brown's kids claimed the estate was being mismanaged by trustees.

The settlement establishes that Tomi Rae Hynie Brown, a former backup singer for Brown, is the surviving spouse and that James Brown 2nd is his child. Brown's lawyers had claimed she was not his widow because she was still married to another man when she and Brown exchanged vows in 2001.

Brown's six adult children had bickered with Hynie Brown as each fought for a share of the estate.

How much is James Brown's estate worth?

    Gold-digging w****!!

Was the child really James Brown's son.

The judge should have upheld the will, but noooo, he has to disrespect a black man's final wish.

    Typical America.

:smt018Correction: A paternity test proved that James Brown Jr. was indeed his son & even though James would only call him Lil' Man when he was alive you can clearly see that James spit that boy out.[IMG] Plus what was his final wish that was disrespected playa?

1.SO it was his son. But there HAS to be a reason they were left out the will. I bet you $100 that she was shady. Hell it is claimed she was married to another man before they exchanged vows. So she shouldn't have gotten a quarter of the money. And why did those two receive a quarter?? What makes them more deserving then his adult kids????

    2. Assuming the will wasn't mishandled, James Brown did NOT want them to have anything, so the judge should have upheld it. ANd if she wasn't on the will, then what makes her more entitled than the rest of the family?? A quarter seems a bit to steep for someone who wasn't on the will in the first place.

Yeah but the overall bottom line point is that is his son, you got to take
care of your children no matter what. Enough said right there.

James was always suspicious of everybody around him even folks he loved because of his mother and especially where it concerned money. Remember a couple of years before he passed when his own daughters sued him? James was just that way plus I don't think he left too much to anybody including his other kids either so Tomi Rae wasn't the only one trying to get paid plus she has a small child to raise as well named JAMES BROWN JR.

If it is close to 100 million JB is indeed The Hardest Working Man in Show business.

If Tomi Rae was a black woman in the same exact scenario there wouldn't even be a controversy.

    Well.....

Maybe only in Jet and Ebony would there be any "Drama"

This shit didn't even make a blip on TMZ or anything else.

If she was a shady Black Women they would make just as much noise but honestly it was only heard on the East Coast, it didn't make that fur out here in Candyland.

    Holla
