There is racism in all groups. However, unity works better. There is a common enemy, and that enemy has all the power. Hispanics don't, Arabs don't, Gay people don't. I have heard Hispanics complain about how racist Black people are against Hispanics, Arabs complain about how racist Black people are against Arabs, Gay people complain about how homophobic Black People are. And all of those groups have people in them that are racist against Black people.

No group is untouched by bigotry.

Fighting amongst disenfranchised groups, however, helps no one but those in power. Of all the crabs in the barrel, none ever becomes ship captain.

It is wiser to locate allies within these groups than to choose isolationism based on the worst of each group. This is not to say that those worst deserve anything from anyone, or that each group shouldn't focus on their own priorities. But there is strength in numbers, and that doesn't change.


Finally, I think it's sad that there's a diversion in this thread about this crazy awesome Astronaut.

There will always be sad negros who talk about unifying with other groups before thinking about unifying amongst themselves.The black community is too divided.We need to worry about unification AMONGST OURSELVES before we worry about others.
Im sure back in the 1840's/mid 1800's,there were negroes that advocated for the advancement of irish immigrants they THOUGHT were friends of blacks.Fedrick Douglass comes to mind right away.
Every single immigrant group,that has immigrated to america,has assimilated and have been accepted by the american society more so than negros,why is this?
When the irish first came to this country,they were looked at as negros.They wernt considered whites.They were crammed into living spaces with negros.There was alot of racial mixing between irish and negros back in the day.White Anglos considered negros and irish to be the same(remind you of something? *cough latinos cough*).But despite the irish's revolutionary roots,fight injustices against their people back in Ireland by the british,they made the opposite choice to turn on their black bretheren and collaberate with the dominant white culture int he oppresion of African Americans.They learned that they had to turn on their closest social class competitors (free northern blacks).They soon learned that as long as they lived,and worked along side of Blacks,they'd be considered no different.So eventually they worked and got into the labor movement and barred blacks from entering it.
So,you have the classic story of 1 ethnic group,,turning on another in order to climb the socioeconomic latter.They italians did they same.Every immigrant does.Hispanics will eventually do the same(they are starting to do it).

And here you have these stupid,insolent negros advocating for the advancement of others who dont like blacks.YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THESE GROUPS THEY ADVOCATE FOR BLACKS.They practice self preservasion,something blacks need to look into.Just like cubans barr any other ethnic group(especially blacks) from the political arena in Miami.Same thing mexicans do in alot of cities in the southwest region of the U.S.

There was an article that came out last year during the political raise.A poll was done regarding race relations and it had showed that hispanics habored more negative views towards blacks than whites.Dont believe me,google it.Alot of these hispanics come to this country already harboring racist views.Blacks all throughout latin america are treated like animals,and are light years behind blacks in america when it comes to wealth,political representation,etc etc.The shit that these immigrants see on the news only auguments their racist generalizations and stereotypes.

 

It's important first to note that while we consider Hispanics to be one big lump of a homogenous group here in the United States, in various Latino countries they are the spectrum of race themselves, with their own racial problems. So light skinned Hispanics have generations of racism against dark skinned Hispanics before they every get to the United States. So when we see a Hispanic person being particularly racist, it is important not to assume they represent the entire group, necessarily, just as a racist White person from, say Mississippi shouldn't represent the views of a Black person from New York. There are lots of different countries & classes & racial groups contained within the label of Hispanic.

 

Sorry,but blacks are on our own.As soon as blacks realize this,the better.

Why? Will isolationism help unity? Will it encourage it? Will Black people be more unified when they are less worried about other groups? Will working against the advancement of Hispanics do anything to deter Black Women from spending money with Asian hair care monopolies? Will embracing hatred towards Arabs encourage new investment in HBCs? What does one have to do with the other, or is unity just an excuse?

Not so long as there are White people, they aren't.

I keep thinking about that Tyra episode, where even the Black Women were saying that the only reason a Black Man would be running is if he stole something, and only the Arab woman spoke up. You have to look for the little things, as well as the big.

Sadly, that happens far too often. To suggest that this is the only thing that happens suggests a profound ignorance of history or a dedication toward misrepresenting it.

Do you really think that racists would campaign for -- as in volunteer their time, and in some cases risk getting assaulted, going door by door talking to total strangers in other states -- Obama?

 

If you've got anything indicating that's representative of the majority of dark skinned Hispanics, rather than just the usual small percentage, I'd be interested to see it.

Is this really a good plan in this country? You talk about the Irish and other groups that have assimilated. Do you think assimilation fits well with unity? Do you think that assimilation should be a goal for Black people? Do you think that success for any group in the United States is achievable without allies?

Im not saying all arabs harbor racist attitudes towards blacks.That would be a generalization,but MANY do.The descendants of slves throughout the Middle East are treated like shit,and harrassed in the streets and called "abd" (slaves).Africans from south of the Sahara usually will tell you that the biggest hurdle towards immigrating to Spain/Europe,is North Africa,where you are the most likely to be harassed in the streets due to the color of your skin.

Most of the time it does happen.

 

I see nothing here about how choosing not to build bridges will do anything to improve unity in the Black community. You seem to be suggesting Black people are all just too busy, and if you just pulled all other groups off the agenda, Black people would start shopping Black and all the Black Female v Black Male conflicts would end and there'd be no Black on Black crime?
