What's going on with you?

It is a beautiful day in Savannah! The weather is a very comfortable 80 degrees; it looks like this is going to be a nice Memorial day. The school year is coming to an end, and I will soon be on summer break (I'm a teacher)! I'm taking classes Monday-Thursday night during the summer, and for the first summer in years, I am not planning on working (except for the homework and papers I will have every night of class.)

I plan on cleaning out some boxes in my apartment, and cleaning my place in general. I'm also going to throw out the junk on my back porch and put out planters. Wish me luck- I know absolutely nothing about gardening!

In July I'll drive up to SC to hang out with my friend, Rasheed's family for the 4th. It's always very entertaining because someone from his extended family will usually say something really random to me. Last Thanksgiving, an older gentleman saw me with a plate of food at their family gathering and commented, "I've never seen a white woman eat all that good black food!"

In August I'm going on a cruise to the Bahamas with a friend. I'm so excited for summer! Savannah's a very beautiful -although HOT- town to be in for the summer.

 

It's sad that you can't even enjoy a plate of food without some racial comment even if it's benign. This is why I avoid the South.

I guess because it's not always approprite to make a racial comment, negative or positive, on every occasion.

 

Let's not be overly Sensitive and get carried away...

end of school year

The end of the school year for my son brings lots of tests and activities. Finals this week for him, which means me too, have to sit with him so he will study. A week off and then he starts basketball camp, gets braces midway through that week then off to Dallas to see family and go to another basketball camp. Wow, he will be exhausted, but he loves going to the camps to improve his game. I am wanting to get away for a wk end all by myself. We will see how that goes.

Since my mom had the keys to the car, which included my house key, I had to climb through my window to get in. I knocked over my Xbox, which had my 8 gig flash drive in it. The shit falls over and breaks my flash drive. FML.

 

Ok, they called me to confirm I'm starting work on MONDAY and it will last for around one year. It's so soon! I'm not psychologically prepared, lol, and I'm scared as hell. Somebody help me!
