Why are blacks so eager to oppose gays?

I've noticed this and have always wondered why it occurs. I'm not going to compare gay rights' struggles with black folks struggles but I do find it odd how so many of us engage in premarital sex, have children out of wedlock and break every single one of the Ten Commandments and yet we all of a sudden become fundamentalists when the issue of gays arises.

Because they're hypocrites, mostly.

...and harbour insecurities. The black community is very religious as well, I think that plays the biggest part.

American blacks, on the whole, are actually rather conservative.

Most blacks are against equating gay partnerships with traditional marriage. Is this what you would consider anti-gay? Or do you mean anti-gay agenda?

They are not the same thing.

Blacks and gays are seen as a minority to the mainstream and if they are on opposite sides then it becomes easier for the majority to maintain the staus-quo.

The antipathy is rooted to a large extent in religion. However, as far as the current dust up over this issue in DC is concerned, there are a bunch of agitators from mega churches outside of the city who have been attempting to galvanize support against the current gay marriage proposition in the local black community much like the Mormons and Evangelicals did in their campaign for prop 8 in California. With all of the issues facing low income blacks in D.C. (drugs, violence, unemployment, substandard schools, poor health care ect.), I find the fact that these cretins have chosen to start riling people up over something that won't have any tangible effect on their lives unless they themselves are seeking to enter into a marital contract with a partner of the same sex is infuriating to me.

Yeah. A lot of people on both sides lost their tempers after CNN erroneously reported that the blacks were they key voting block responsible for the passage of proposition 8 in California. I remember seeing a lot people start to openly use homophobic and racial slurs in discussing the subject on liberal sites that frequent after the election, and the people on the right in the media at the time were during their best to fuel the fire.

Many of those so called "liberal" gays are racist themselves. Many of them showed their true colors after the election, when they screamed racial slurs at blacks during gay rights rallies

Racism is prevalent throughout the gay community.Being gay dosent make you devoid of bigotry.

Ive heard gay black dudes talk about their hellish experiences within the gay community.Alot have no choice but to befriend, and surround themselves with white gays, because alot become outcast from the Black community.

For a start, most men I met hated gay people. Said this, I must say that all black men I met besides my last ex were very disgusted by the existence of gay people. I talked with 3 guys about "what would u do if our child one day came over and told you he is gay?". 2 of them were like "hell no! I'm not gonna talk to him anymore ever". One of my exes told me this: "you got to understand that homosexuality is a big taboo in the black community".

I think religion has a big role in the shame some black ppl feel when it comes to homosexualiy but, like chosen one said, it's very stupid since A LOT of ppl are very judging about gayness but spend their time fucking around with random ppl, using drugs and getting drunk.

Don't know, it just doesn't make sense to me.

Most of everything, btw, I think homosexuality SCARES men in general. Why?
It seems like you gus think gays just walk around ready to hit u from the back or something!!! :smt043

I think everybody opposes gays quite equally, but it's just shown differently for blacks. In hip-hop, you hear a lot of anti-homosexual shit, because if being soft ain't tolerated in the suburbs, it sure as hell isn't gonna fly in a ghetto neighborhood where a lot of these anti-homosexual rappers come from(even though there's supposedly a LOT of homosexuality in the hip-hop circles, among the well known rappers too). But I do notice that in entertainment, hip-hop mainly, blacks accuse other of homosexuality the most, because they know it's a shot to their street cred. Blacks probably think more of the "being a pussy" part of being gay, rather than the "god says it's wrong" part, at least the ones who feel they need to prove their toughness. Eh. Let the gays do what they want.

I agree, I know loads of white and black men and honestly, they're equally as homophobic. Some are, some aren't.

One thing I noticed is with my African friends (like, raised there) are really, really homophobic.

I think most blacks are antigay because of religion.

***********0000ff]The funny thing is that the same churches which are the most vehement about opposing homosexuality are the very ones that worked to ensure that blacks would permanently remain second class citizens.

***********0000ff]Gay marriage is to the early 21st century what interracial marriage was to the 1960s. People used to say that IR marriage was against God's word; now they say that about gay marriage.

***********0000ff]I do believe that in 25 years, enough states will have moved in favor of gay marriage that the federal courts will strike down the antigay laws.

The ironic thing is the same churches that oppose homosexuality most vehemently are the very ones that opposed legal recognition of civil rights of blacks.
