President Barack Obama's national security adviser says allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military is in the early discussions.

But retired Marine Gen. James Jones says it's very preliminary in a very busy administration.

Jones said Sunday he's not sure if the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy would be overturned, although Obama has said he wants it eliminated. Jones said the decision to go forward lies with the president.

For now, Jones says, "We have a lot on our plate right now."

To change the Clinton-era policy, Obama would need Congress' approval. Recent polls suggest public support but the White House faces other challenges with lawmakers, such as passing his budget and health care plan.

Obama: A moderate all the way around.

Congrats you elected a radical leftist who is a Puppet of the ACLU.

    This country is going down.

If he was a radical leftist he'd have done the damn thing already, as promised.

While running, he clearly stated that he would repeal DODA and DADT, and that he was pro choice. People voted for him anyway.

Wow. So gay people aren't allowed to be patriotic?

If gays choose to proudly serve their country in the armed forces, then they have every right to do so.

Let the gays serve in the fuckin' army. Although, if I was gay, I wouldn't serve in the army. Hell, I ain't fighting for this god damn country as a straight man. I'm not gonna get used and butt-fucked. Hell naw. I'm no killer.

There is nothing to review ... just end the damn practice. To quote the great Barry Goldwater, "You don't have to be straight to be in the military. You just have to shoot straight".

The costs have easily outweighed the benefits with regards to DADT.
