    Real talk

I refuse to see a sexy black chick kiss and make love to a white man on the big screen untill they make movies with black men and white women doing the same

I saw it and it was awesome!! And speaking of having IR relations, keep in mind that there were no black men and no white women as part of the principal Enterprise crew in the original series. There was Kirk (white male), McCoy (white male), Spock (white Vulcan male), Uhura (black female), Chekov (white male), Sulu (Asian male), and Scotty (white male). There didn't need to be a BM/WW relationship in the movie.

In the subsequent series, every single recurring black male character was paired with a white female at some point. Worf was paired with Dax in DS9, Georgi was usually paired with one. In DS9, Captain Sisko fucked Dax at some point, his son Jake had white girlfriends. I'm not sure about Tuvok as I wasn't as into Voyager, but if I were to make a bet, then I would bet that he did.

Star Trek has done more than its fair share of mixed race dating, of all types. Consider that before boycotting Star Trek.

I was just about to say that. Yeah the problem interracially with
hollywood is that they don't allow Interracial between black men
and white women to go on in mainstream, like they are allowing other
types of interracial. They don't want to give a spotlight to it in movies
    or on NBC:lol:

Just check bogus interracial stunts like the one in hancock for proof
and reverse that to a black woman and white man.

People need to stop counting Worf. He played a damn Klingon, not a black man. Oh, you would be wrong about your bet regarding VOY. But the following show ENT it was a different story. Still both shows weren't worth catching anyway.

Then you can't count this movie as WM/BW either, because it's a Vulcan & a Black Woman. No, Uhura doesn't have sex with Kirk. She doesn't have sex with anyone. She just kisses Spock. I saw it Thursday, it's awesome.

    ...

Oh, and although Tuvok didn't have sex with any White Women, he did have an offer from one, but he didn't take it because he's married.

Has it occurred to anyone that this is probably another attempt by Hollywood to screw with us? I mean, we've all seen the advertisement for the movie. The clips they put together are usually taken out of context once everyone's seen the movie in question. So of course it's going to appear like onscreen IR romance.

And no, I didn't think they'd let Uhura sleep with anyone, although it would have been a great opportunity for her character to have a black boyfriend cast for her. Hollywood is just a big chicken shit town which, as we've noticed over time, has begun to shy away from doing any type of overt sex scenes whatsoever. And to do it in a Star Trek movie with a non-white character is just not going to happen.

You're correct about the makeup of the crew. However, remember the time period as well. It was the '60s. A very turbulent time in American history, especially for blacks and the civil rights movement. I heard somewhere that Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) was considering leaving the show at one point, but MLK himself got wind of this and advised her to stick with it, noting the importance her symbol was to blacks at the time.

Now, as far as there not needing to be an IR (bm/ww) relationship, the storyline probably needed to stay on point. But anyone whose seen eps of the original series can clearly see that there was co-habitation amongst crew members, just in the background. I've always felt like all the star trek series' and movies could have spent a little more time displaying relationships for a short time so that the audience could be more confortable with how things were in the star trek universe.

Sorry to show my "nerdiness," but that's not entirely accurate. Worf did eventually marry Dax, though after he was "transferred" to DS9. Unfortunately, her character was killed off soon after. Actually, during the last season of TNG, he dated Diana Troi briefly as well. Geordi LaForge only had one real love interest, Lt. Aquel or something, who was black. There was a couple of episodes where he was infatuated with Leah Bramms, a white engineer, but that never went anywhere. Sisko and Dax NEVER hooked up, though they came close on a couple of occasions. And Jake was dating a Dabo girl for a while. And finally, Jamal's right about Voyager and Tuvok. He never got any either. Actually, he was married, to a black vulcan if you can believe it!

I'm sorry, but ST hasn't come close to fulfilling it's potential as a show about what humanity can be. Not until race amongst humans is no longer a great issue. The white characters and many of the non-blacks in general have always had a great latitude as far as what direction they would go and who they are paired with. Every black character, male or female, has always been straddled with the same stupid race restrictions that have stunted true character development. That's why I wasn't really expecting anything special from this movie in terms of "progress" for race or relationships in general. No, this movie was just another Hollywood fat cat looking to make another white male a star with Jim Kirk's name on his back. Now that would be a reason to boycott it.

AMEN. I heard when they where developing "Enterprise" that the thought was to name it "Star Trek Academy" or something and have it revolve around cadets. That sounded like a better idea than a prequel to me.

Well, I guess we can't count Sisko having sex (off screen) with Mirror Universe Dax either because she's a Trill. Oh, my inner geek is showing now. :p

Seriously though my point about Worf is not as much the fact that he's an alien but that actors playing Klingons now wear heavy prosthetics and all sorts of makeup to conceal their features and at times skin tone. Actors playing Vullcans however don't so guys like Spock and Tuvok are not necessarily race neutral to me.

    True.

1)I don't recall a Lt. Aquel whom Geordi was in love with. Okay maybe there was one ep with his black lady but no one saw it as his being his true love. The writers of the show and the, umm, books alwys considered Leah to be the lady Geordi would end up with.

2)Jake's dabo girl was hot! Shame she was only on one ep (but mentioned in three). Jake should have been paired with Ezri. That would have led to all sorts of interesting complications.

3)Yeah, I found it funny too that the only two black Vulcans ever introduced on Trek happened to be married. Way to go, Voyager
