UCI (University of California, Irvine) finds racial bias in Internet dating

White men are more willing than white women to date outside of their race, and both genders have distinctly different racial preferences, says a new UC Irvine study that examined the claims of thousands of people who used the popular Yahoo Personals online dating service.

“Among daters with stated racial preferences, white men are more likely to exclude blacks as possible dates, while white women are more likely to exclude Asians,” says the study by UCI sociologists Cynthia Feliciano and Belinda Robnett.

I never figured Asian men had much of a chance anyways.

I wonder why the study didn't have other racial groups' preferences in it.

The article doesn't mention anything specific about black men; only black women in relation to white men and Asian men in relation to white women. Perhaps the actual study delves into other demographics such as what black men or Hispanic women are likely to list as desirable candidates for dating.

In any case, the sample isn't representative of the general population nor the average Internet user, so I'm uncertain of what sort of meaningful extrapolations can be wrung from from the data?

Where did you find this, Saty?
I think I've seen exactly the same article quotes and link provided in the same form on some other board this days.

I always stayed away from online dating sites, because I didn't feel like sifting through all of the non-black girls, just to find a few that would go interracially..

even with interracial dating sites, you still have to put in some guesswork, because dating IR doesn't mean they're open to dating 'black.'

It would be cool if online dating sites could develop a brain cell or two, and add an option for racial/ethnic preference, so that you could add that as a search criteria, and only show women that have an interest in going black.

There is a dating that that has that.

Unfortunately, I saw it a long time ago and can't remember the name of the site.

Not much of a surprise here. Of course this is a sampling simply of those with "stated racial preferences" but still I've always figured that white males were more likley to date outside their race than their women...and get less grief about it as well. Hell, considering how many of the have yellow fever this isn't much of a surprise. But of course its black men with the reputation of "always" going outside their race....especially with "some white girl."

Also is it a surprise that white women with stated racial preference are less likley than white men to want to go outside their race? While the mass media does float out the idea (in books, movies, TV, paegents and music) that there are indeed beautiful "minority" girls out there, the same media goes about enforcing the idea of the white male being almost exclusively the sole desirable man. Just check out a show like ET or Access Hollywood to get my drift. There are exceptions but we know the deal. Also it doesn't hurt white men that they are the big boys in the USA when it comes to careers and earning power. In the eyes of many white women it would be a step down to date outside their race for that reason alone.

Anyone ever heard of the Turner Diaries? Its some racist bullshit book written by some white power chap. In the story all white women who have gone outside the race for mates are killed horribly. But there's no mention of all the white men who have done the same. I guess those white guys with a little taste for color get a free pass. That's the mentality of much of white America: its okay for the men, not so much for the women. Actually that's an attitude that is common for most of the ethnic and racial groups in the world.

How you inferred all of this from the newspaper article and not the source material of the actual study is beyond me?

To entertain your comments independently of the article or study, I will say that yes much of human social engineering globally does consist of controlling female sexuality. The "enlightened" west with all of its lip service to egalitarian social values still has a problem with letting women choose what they like with little to no opposition. The "stated preferences" of white, black, or Chinese women who date in Los Angeles, or anywhere, is incidental if they're not actually getting what they want. This does not necessarily carry the qualifier of not stating the preference for a certain ethnicity for fear of the social consequences. From this we can extrapolate that the real problem is sexism.

I'll leave it here but will say I do enjoy reading some of your posts as it appears that you live with an intractable bug up your ass. I find it rather amusing and almost literary-like in the tradition of Dostoeveky's Underground Man. ;)

This study has many flaws so I doubt that they had interviewed a large number of people.

I wonder why only WM and WW were subjects of this study.
Why not men/women from all races ?
I'm sure the result would have been completely different.

    I question it.

I've seen more than a few black women/white men pairs and I've seen a number of Asian men/white women pairs.

I know what I've seen vs. a “scientific” study are two different things but I think they need a much wider sample and some blind double blinds too.

In the end however it's all good.

Most of the ww on this site are searching for a bm.

www.blackpeoplemeet.com and www.blackplanet.com are really good too. I hope this helps.

I was thinking regarding the OP, that report makes sense. Most not all of the white men would be looking for women who would match or be submissive to their needs-while black women might be too independent for the average white male. Also, as i have looked in the IR dating sites , i have found that the interests and activities black women like may not mirror the likes and interests of the average white male(hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling, country or hard rock, etc). Most of the black women were still saying things like urban activities, jazz, hip hop, not into outdoor activities).

Just a thought, probably way off, but just observing
