I dumped that show once they got rid of the black characters. Now before people think I'm some out of control militant when it comes to black characters let me explain further why I was pissed off. The creator of the show, a white female, was the one person who didn't care for the idea of Conrad and Nancy. She couldn't know ahead of time that the two actors would have so much chemistry. And she couldn't expect that reviewers were picking up on an atarction between the characters and that fans of the show would increasingly beg for Conrad (the black guy) and Nancy to hook up. Its not every day that viewers openly root for the black guy and the white lady (especially if she is the lead) to get together. The creator/head writer addresed this somewhat and then eventually she had the two do the deed. An onscreen love scene and a relationship ensued. The pairing however lasted for a few eps before it was ridiculously torn apart. After that Conrad and the other black characters were banished from the show as Nancy and her family moved elsewhere. When asked about the decision to do this and whether or not Conrad would be back, the writer said that she didn't care for the relationship between the two and wanted to go in another direction. She realized that everybody else liked the relationship but it wasn't something she was invested in. I would have respected her decision more if it she had said she saw no growth in the black characters. I would ahve been fine if she had commented that she just wanted to shake the show up by getting rid of all the characters outside of Nancy's family. But instead she kept all the white characters around, even those outside of Nancy's family. It was just the black characters that went into exile from the series. Now perhaps I overreacted but that move and the writer's reason for making the decision was enough to turn me off the show for good. I'd rather watch "Brotherhood" ( a very underated series btw) which has zero black characters than support a show like "Weeds" which did its black characters and actors wrong. Just my two cents. By the way is the woman in the picture above from the "Tudor" series? I had heard she was a blonde though she looks better with dark hair.
Thanks Jamal... I was wondering what the low low was concerning Nancy & Conrad's relationship because I too knew that a lot of folks both black & white wanted to see them get together for real. I even asked on another site about Conrad being on the show this season (I don't have Showtime) and one person remarked hopefully so so maybe it isn't a done deal yet but let me know. :weedman:
First, what is her name? Second, what is the name of the show she is featured in? Third, she is single handedly going to be all the reason to subscribe to Showtime? hmm.. :smt115.. thanks, but no thanks!
I didn't dump it, but I haven't watched it as much. I don't read up on shows anymore for this very reason. Consequently, I am a little surprised by the creator's stance on their relationship. Of course, if anyone saw the very first ep., who really would have had a doubt that those two would at least hook up? I noticed it from the beginning, but in my own racist way, felt like the studio would have probably never green lighted their "relationship." Actually, they gave Nancy several suitors, including that DEA guy I believe and the latino guy who banged her on that car bumper before Conrad got her. As for them "breaking up," ya'll know that Hollywood's way of letting everyone know that IR is still not acceptable and won't result in a happy ending. Plus the damn storylines were all over the place generally. It did not seem like the writers were sure what direction they wanted to go in. In any case, it wasn't shocking that they fired all the black folks. IMO, they all gave the show the edge. They educated white bred suburban Nancy on the ways of weed and dealing with people. Who knows. Maybe she was one of those white females who isn't fond of IR (bm/ww) couples. Or she just felt like the chemistry wasn't there between the two. Either way, why cast black people at all??? They all seem to want a stereotypical group of black people living on the other side of town illegally investing in marijuana but don't want them to have any real substance about why they do it? Please. Another example of Hollywood tryin to have it's cake and eat it too. Damn! We must be distant relatives or somethin'. I love that show! Ever since the first ep., I've been into it. I like that it portrays the Irish in a positive light for a change even though the characters do tend to drink and there's a gangster mentality behind the scenes. But it's very relatable to everyone, including blacks. And there is a brotha on there who has a recurring role. I think he's in the state house right? But the writing is quite sensible. It just goes to show that Hollywood typecasts and stereotypes who they want.
Her name is Natalie Dormer and she was on The Tudors. She portrayed Anne Boleyn. Her character was killed (the beheading of Anne Boleyn) off last season.
