I'd be pissed if i was him too tho. thats some bullshit on marvels part. i thought they were better than that. don cheadle cant play warmachine!
That is pretty f-ed up how they dropped him and replaced him. I think Howard would make a much better vilian.
He is a big name actor and it is within his right to make demands, but it looks like Marvel called his bluff: "...he was replaced in the "Iron Man" sequel over a reported salary dispute. "Marvel made a choice, and it was a very, very bad choice," Sounds to me like Terrance Howard may have made the bad choice here.
um yeah, I thought this was known before that there was a 'salary dispute.' Howard probably wanted more money, since he is a rising star in hollywood. But, due to his role as little screen time sidekick, Marvel more than likely wanted to give him peanuts. Like I said before tho, he probably thinks he's worth more and got himself canned as a result. He wouldn't be the first big talent to have pay issues either. Mickey Rourke rejected a role, because they wanted to offer him like 250k or something. It's a lot of money to MOST of us, but to those guys bringing in millions, that's shit.
He is good (Howard) and a big name and he deserves to get paid, but it looks like Marvel ain't gonna be the one. I like Cheadle though, I think he will do well.
I don't like his frame, to be honest.. maybe it's because I'm used to the comic figures being all buff and shit
one report said Howard made $20M on the 1st IronMan...he was the highest paid of the crew..even Paltrow who has an Oscar. I think Howard probably wanted merchandising profits...like what Jack Nicholson got from the 1st Batman. BTW, Downey is replaceble....look at all of the Batman actors.
Marvel Entertainment movie division want to promote THEIR CHARACTERS . . . repeat THEIR CHARACTERS (i.e. Iron Man, Spider-man, Hulk, Thor, Avengers, etc.) not the actors who play them. Personally, Marvel should get unknowns to play the characters, Iron Man rejuvenated Robert Downing, Jr. acting career. If Marvel decided to do a spin-off for the character "War Machine" Terrence Howard would have had a HUGE paycheck for a new franchise so because of this I believe this is why Marvel replaced him. I believe Marvel Entertainment wanted to use the money to finance it's other characters down the road.
point very well taken. however, i don't think any of the marvel movies would do well if they didn't have some familiar names associated with them. a lot of people are not familiar or even interested in the comic franchise. so while i agree with not having mega stars i do feel that maybe lesser knowns would suffice. from a movie goers perspective, you throw the movie and the story off when you change actors in the middle of a sequel or threequel, how would lord of the rings or harry potter have turned out if they changed the characters? Not that i'm a fan of either, but for the sake of argument.
Depends on how you look at that... They seem to be promoting Hugh Jackman as much as his character Wolverine I think that's because he's the only person who can pull off that ridiculous haircut, with impeccable fashion. This will be his FOURTH outing as everyone's favorite Canuckle head, in May, and I expect a few more Hugh Jackman appearances in more Marvel Origin/universe type films.
This is the same quote that's been out for two to three weeks. Its as if different publications and websites are slowly catching up to it. Enough. I like Howard but he has to shut up. As I mentioned before he is a great talent who gets into trouble with his mouth. And he always seem to change his story. He was shocked about being replaced but ultimately he was okay. He didn't want to do the sequel because his boy Wil Smith told him those types of films were a waste. Now he's angry and betrayed. Stay on track, T. The sad thing is that even with some lousy reviews being handed out for "Fighting", Howard is mostly getting raves from critics for his work in that movie. The guy has loads of ability and screen presence. I love this one description from a Boston critic: Howard talks in a high, whiny singsong, and his hair is back to that almost-marcelled S-Curl sheen. He's the most effortlessly charismatic man in the movies. But he rarely gets to connect that suaveness to the flesh and bone of a persuasively drawn character. Well, persuasively drawn characters are hard to come by, especially if you're not a white male. Even if Howard wasn't upseting folks with his comments, he would still be left with lead roles in shit like "Pride" because the movie indsutry don't give people like him substantial roles. Some black folks were doubting me when I told them that Howard may never get a more three dimensional and complex role than the one he played in "Hustle & Flow." People can dismiss that role/character because he is a pimp, but it still provided Howard a rare opportunity to show his whole game. Right now he is a part of a generation of black actors in Hollywood who are, as usual, being wasted. I include Howard's IM replacement, Don Cheadle, in that mix.
I agree. Howard was not the perfect build for Rhodes either, but Don Cheadle is downright ridiculous for this part. Meh. I never imagined a guy who would be chosen as Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine would be the actor chosen to play the short, hairy, average-looking Wolverine But that's how its done for the white guys. Even when considering an average looking character Hollywood makes sure they get a pretty face to play the part. Meanwhile James Rhodes is a tall military man, with a linebacker's body and Hollywood goes for Don Cheadle.
yeah i'm still miffed over that Having DC play War Machine is like having Ashton Kutcher replace Arnold Schwartz in the Terminator
I agree with a lot that's already been said here, and just want to add one more element to this discussion: We should not forget that Marvel is fucking evil. Given the opportunity to do something shitty, they will take that opportunity, so long as it doesn't cost them money. Now, whether they were being shitty with Howard, and whether it will ultimately cost them money, is debatable. But still. Marvel is fucking evil.
