Just like releasing the terrorists in GITMO here into the U.S. once it is closed. It won't work. Should have given the pirate to the kenyans. They would have hung him in days. The Americans are compassionate people. He will be let go and will be on the talking head networks. He may even have a movie done on him and a book deal.
They're being "released" into U.S. prisons. Considering the fact that we don't have any problem incarcerating a higher percentage of our population than any other nation, I think that it will work just fine. Yeah, that's exactly what will happen.
I will say it again: The shipping companies need to take more responsibility for their own safety. They should arm themselves with automatic weapons and defend their cargo. There is an international naval force in that area and they cannot stop the pirates. The cargo ships need to be armed
I co-sign it as well. We Americans never learn and still make everything all about us. That shows on this board where posters (I'm assuming they are black) were wishing that this criminal/pirate of African descent was taken to another country in order to be hung. Fucking amazing. The sad thing is that many of the people across the globe strike out in barbaric ways against the US and the West because of the big boys' inexcusable actions against them and other people of poorer nations. But when the super nations dump toxic wastes off the coast of a poor nation, steal their fish and plunder all they want it is not seen by us "civilized" folks as a crime. Even though those acts are far more destructive and deadlier to far more people than any outbreak of piracy. No, we see these acts by our nations and others as white collar criimes at best. And as you can see these past few months white collar criminals do a lot more damage than guys with guns in the hood. But the white collar criminals aren't arrested or snatched up by the law nearly as quick.
In that case, your beef isn't with the shipping companies but rather international maritime law. The crews of merchant vessels are prohibited from having weapons on board their ships.
This is a Somalian teenager who had access to guns. I think the more important thing is doing something about global arms trafficking, so that guns are not available. This US 'kangaroo' trial will make him a martyr. It will do nothing to end piracy. He will live better in the federal pen then he did trying to scratch out a living in Somalia. BTW, the Dutch captures some Somalian pirates. You know what they did with them??? They let them all go home. The Kid Rasta
I would imagine it is. I don't think the law helps at all. It just means that the pirates have easy targets
