Man, I hate family reunions. Always gossip and more gossip. As if I didn't hear enough of it at achool.
Honestly, no. I don't have many close white female friends and I am not a bigot or hypocrite. However, I do understand the comparison you are making and I see that there are some similarities in how some ww may regard a wm/aw relationship. Then again, ww aren't running around, screaming "the sky is falling" because all the good wm are being snatched up by aw. A good friend of mine is an aw who is married to a wm and I never saw their relationship in those terms. Ironically, she gives me flack about dating bm.
Same here. I feel no jealously seeing a white man with any other ethnicity - African, Asian, whatever. I did feel insanely jealous when I saw this amazing, like jaw droppingly handsome black guy with this white woman yesterday. Sorry, OT but I saw around 6 BM/WW couples in ONE restaurant yesterday. Thought it was quite unusual. Small Italian place as well.
Geez. That's a harshness at another ridiculous level. But the writer/director is open to this criticism by intentionally creating the role for a white woman and then not wanting to make an issue of race as if doing so was a sign of being progressive. Comparing the film to Birth of A Nation is absurd. That being said the one thing that is true about these types of books, movies and storylines is that they do indeed play up black female victimhood. Black women love to portray themselves as the strongest people on Earth while simultaneously projecting themselves as the planet's greatest victims.
And white men are the standard of male beauty in this country and this world. It is what it is right now. One does not have to accept it even while acknowledging its out there. That being said one can't use it to justify whining about seeing someone of the same race but opposite sex date someone outside the race.
I don't know the exact numbers in this country but I do know that at least 50% japanese Americans date outside their race (with most of that being with white folks). Anyway as I mentioned earlier do white gals go all nuts about this. I've been told there are white women who tire of white guys with yellow fever but nonetheless it doesn't apparently consume them. They have not made an industry of it in books, articles, TV shows, movies, etc at the rate black women have. And this is despite the fact that, percentage speaking, more white men hook up with Asian chicks than black guys hook up with white chicks. Not only that you see far more representation of WM/AW on the big screen than you do BM/WW. And still white females keep their collective wits about them. Black women should take a cue from them. Just saying. The people that should be pissed off the most are Asian men who truly get screwed over both in real life and when it comes to onscreen representation (WM/AW vs AM/WW). I know that some of those dudes are probably bottling things up inside and that can't be too good for them. But at least they display some dignity and grace. There been some interesting articles/studies I've comr across regarding the whole white guy-Asian girl thing. But instead of tracking them down I'll leave you with links to some of the more interesting and disturbing YouTube links. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI3lPLsbwjw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu61YBai_mM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3nWGKQPWbo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD3wsRR-ZEo&feature=related
What a shock. Not. I don't want to suggest you hurt your friendship with her in any way, but the next time she gives you flack for that why not throw it back in her face and tell her to stop being a hypocrite.
Man, what the hell? If you have to ask me something, do so directly. Don't post this passive-aggressive shit like I can't read it. My friend teases me in jest. Perhaps "flack" was too strong of a word choice. I have no problem checking her when she messes with me. I only posted this information about my friend to support my point that ww aren't stressing over the aw/wm relationship. I was trying to think of aw/wm relationships in films... Snow Falling on Cedars The Joy Luck Club Full Metal Jacket (doesn't really involve relationships) And one am/ww relationshp film... The Lover (with Jane March)
The three to one ratio you came up with Asian-white IR on film was kind. But its more like 30 to 1 in reality.
The Replacement Killers with Chow Yun Fat and Mia Sorveno. Anna and the King with Chow and Jodie Foster. The Namesake with Kal Penn and Jacinda Barrett. The English Patient with Naveen Andrews and Juliette Binoche. And in the Harold and Kumar movies, isnt Harold in love with a white lady he sees in the elevator?
HAHAHA!! That was the show back in the day. But Harold and Kumar is a movie. A Korean and a Middle Eastern dude. But they do get into funny mishaps like Kenan and Kel.
Some members are hellbent on keeping white and black women at loggerheads and they're doing a very good job of it. This movie sounds similar to Fatal Attraction.
We're having a very difficult time image-wise after Mary Kay LeTourneau and company came to light. Yes, some women will go to great lengths to get the man of their dreams like the astronaut who drove non-stop from Texas to Florida wearing adult diapers. Folks need to remember that this is a "movie" and resist reading so much into the plot.
Hey CS, New to the forum but can you tell me how your asian female friend gives you flack about dating black men? eblack
Jamal, Always enjoy reading your post but let me tell you. I live in the Columbia, MD area and as for interracial dating i actually get more flack from dating Asian, Latin or Indian women from there own people vs when i date a white women. Sometime I think that maybe that average white person may just feel that eventually someone in their family will date someone of another race maybe a black person so they will be in Politically correct liberal mode so they may not say anything but in my experience most Asian women i have dated will tell me up front that the family doesn't like it and would prefer she break off the relationship. I always been told by other Asians especially the men that for some reason Asians have always had this thing for assimilating with whites. I have many stories but this one comes to mind. Several years ago i use to date this Korean women who had several sisters in college along with her. Her mom was a doctor and would fly over to see them from time to time. Well her English was not good but i remember her once over dinner openly telling her Korean daughters who they should date and here is how she said it JAPANESE OK, CHINESE NO, Anyone from any SE Asian country NO. black men NO, Hispanic NO but white YES. I was a little taken back by it but i didnt argue with her cause that type of person you cannot change. eblack
If this site shut down tomorrow many women would find a reason to be at "loggerheads" as you put it. Don't blame the messenger.
I love Harold and Kumar. They are modern day Cheech n Chong. I laughed so hard at the first one, OMG. :smt081
