Cultural Taboos regarding oral sex

When I was in high school in 1989 or so (in the black community inner city) oral sex was a taboo...for both guys and girls. At my high school the guys who gave oral sex to women were talked about and teased just as badly as girls who did it...even if they did it to their girl friends. Even your male friends would talk about you. Obviously some girls and guys still did it, but you definately had to hide it if you did.

At the same time I worked at a restaurant in the suburbs where there were just 3 of us black men and the rest were white teenagers. The whites all had a completely different attitude about oral sex, both the guys and girls. Being teenagers we talked about sex all the time. To most of the whites, oral sex was not as serious as vaginal sex... it was seen as a safer and less intimate thing. I encountered the same attitude at the University that I attended. Many of the white guys and girls at college did not see oral sex as actual sex. My roommate told me that all during high school both he and his girlfirend had oral sex all the time, but she would not have vaginal sex with him as she was waiting for marriage (she eventually gave up on that restriction). I knew some girls at college who had the same attitude...that oral sex was ok for a new guy they were dating, but regular sex was for relationships. In some ways this makes sense...oral sex alone will not result in pregnancy and some diseases like HIV are harder to transmit this way. A lot of the black girls that thought oral sex was nasty and beneath them in high school, soon had a couple of children at the age of 18 or 19.

To be honest... that stigma about oral sex is disappearing in the black community as the younger people are influenced more and more by internet porn and movies and even sex educators. Also interracial dating is more prevelant. Ultimately nature abhors a vaccumm...if one group of people are getting and giving more pleasure thru sex than another group there is a tendency for things to eventually even out. More black women want the same pleasures that white women have been getting and start demanding that of their men and vice versa.

 

I've had plenty of white girl friends who have been disgusted at the idea of giving head so I think it all come down to a person by person judgment. if you love pleasing your partner and have friends who don't put you down for experimenting then I don't see why oral sex should be difficult. I have always recieved praise in that area but it all came down to having loving partners who were willing to just have fun and be patient as we learned together. Enthusiasm is half the battle for women....
My big issue is the amount of men (in all races) who seem reluctant and inexperienced on how to please a woman orally. Maybe because I'm female I therefore encounter this more but really, it's not that hard. And if you expect a woman to know what she's doing down there than a guy should be just as knowlegable.
