Ultimately, one of the goals of going into a fitness routine, is to look better. Many of us have an area we would like to work on, so kick this thread off with the targeted area and what you would to accomplish.

I started snapping photos of my body a while back, and usually snap a few post-workout or during an off day, to see how I look physically. It's a good way to keep physical track of how you're faring with your workout.

I don't have any photographs of myself to post on the Internet.

I have not gone to the gym since November 2008. I am focusing more on my studies. However, I do have two 22.68 kg (50 lbs.) dumb bells that I use in my home.

It enables me to perform nearly every routine I was executing at the gym. Due to my genetic structure my size decreased due to the limitation of the dumb bells. However muscle memory is still going strong so the definition is still there.

I would imagine a few sets on the Lat-down machine and, moving some 63.5 kg dumb bells would really bring me back to size.

Nevertheless, my home routine consist of the following:

    Pull-Ups
    Dumb Bell Bent-Over Rows
    Dumb Bell Pullovers
    Decline Dumb Bell Presses
    Flat Dumb Bell Presses
    Dumb Bell Shrugs
    Dumb Bell Squats

As you can see, I focus primarily on compound exercises. If you are wondering about arms they come into play while executing Pull-Ups.

I’ve been longing to do some German Volume Training. If you never tried it, I would highly recommend it. You should see significant results within two weeks.

    Cheers!

    175 Abs

Great job on getting the Fitness section going, pettyofficerj. Thank you, webmaster.

My goal is to gain weight, more specifically, muscle mass. I'm not going to do a superhero origin background story right now but I'll just say that I've always been super skinny.

Currently, I weigh about 160 pounds. About eight weeks ago, I was around 145 pounds. My short term goal for the next 15 weeks is an athletic 175 pounds with visible abs. This means that I somehow have to keep my body fat percentage to a minimum. How to keep definition/muscle separation while gaining muscular weight? I have no clue.

    congratulations bro

    :)

Hopefully you're already starting to reap some benefits of daily/weekly exercise.

In the end, we want those benefits, such as feeling better, being a bit healthier, etc.

It's not all about packing on muscle either. Part of it is about doing things that you weren't able to do, for a long time.

Maybe you had kids that you want to play ball with, or a loved one that likes to jog and needs a partner. Or perhaps you like martial arts or boxing, and want to be able to be more athletic for those activities.

    Just keep at it.

This is a good idea Petty and I will be reporting to camp also, progression photos are also a good idea... I train 4 days a week with a 30 minutes of cardio at the beginning, I divide-up the body parts into 2 routines so that everything gets trainde at least twice a week. For 16 years, I have trained with moderate weight and proper form......result....no joint pain like my heavy lifting buddies. When and if any of you express interest,I will share secret about a great asian herb. But I take a teaspoonful of glutamine supplement twice on training days and a least protein 2 shakes during the course of the day for recovery.

I don't know what I would do without my protein shakes, buddy.

    :)

I need to make a stop at my Rite Aid's GNC section soon, to see what I can pick up. I usually head for the Protein powder, or Myoplex shakes, if I know my schedule is going to be busy.

+1 about proper form and no joint pain.

I recently dug up my lifting belt and started wrapping that around my back again, because of the discomfort I was getting, from exercises like shoulder presses, that were just putting too much strain on the lower back.

I hear ya' on that. But when you are a grown man and you get called, "dainty," it's time to make some changes.

I want to drop my bodyfat levels by 3% with minimal muscle loss. Beach time is around the corner!

My routine: In the gym 4 times during the work week doing weight training and sprint intervals. On the weekend it's long run or roller blading with Mrs. Nose. On a good diet day I start with Muesli, tuna/sardines at lunch, throw in a big protein shake and then whatever the Mrs has prepared for dinner.

Right now, I'm just trying to work every muscle of my body, like the Martial Artist that I am:) For me fitness is more of a mental thing than more of a physical thing. I guess that's why I love Martial Arts so much. I take Taekwondo, but I also plan on training in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & one other Martial Art. I also plan on doing weight-training & cardio to be more like my hero Bruce Lee, & once I put my pics ladies will find me attractive again:smt001

Props for this thread. I just started my workout regimen again and I'm already down like 3 belt-sizes. I cut out any and all junk-food, fast-food, and sweets. Plus I drink about 80oz. of water a day and I drink a 20oz. bottle of water before every meal. Instead of soda pop and kool-aid I now drink only REAL juice (orange, grape, cranberry, apple), water, and tea.

Snacks and junk-food are replaced with fruits (mostly grapefruit because it is a tremendous boost to your metabolism). My job on a daily basis is exercise enough so there's the cardio right there.

Losing the weight is easy, keeping it off is the hard part.:smt002

I would like to see some progress pics of body parts, but I doubt they'll surface.

    :D

I swear i'm not a pervert. I just like seeing the progress that people make, through hard work. I guess it comes from playing sports.

Myself, I remember when I couldn't bench 135lbs (2-45 plates and a bar). Next thing you know, I was going at 240lbs and beyond. It took dedication and yes I did notice a change in my body.

As for the martial arts, I think Muay Thai would be a great way to shape up. I have a coworker who used to play college football and keeps telling me how crazy his instructor pushes them, with calisthenics and combos and running. He's always mentioning how sore he was, so I think that's a good testament to how rigorous it can be. TKD can also be good too, as from my experience, you get running as a warm up, along with stretches, cals, and different combo training and sparring.

Edit: This should read 155 pounds, not 145 pounds.
