I like the IR group idea but I do know some folks on here that would balk at becoming automatic FB friends. If you could remove the automatic part and allow it to remain selective that would be more appealing.

Thank you everyone for responding. I am still not understanding why people actively use multiple sites. Do you have different friends on those sites? Do they serve unique purposes?

DI, I enjoy how you've emphasized that your friends are real on your site. I know so many "friend collectors" and 500+ friends is extraordinary! Holy social butterflies!

I guess I should get a facebook. But I already have a myspace. Hm. And I have a mEgo too. I can only talk about myself so much, until it gets boring.

I have a myspace account and a facebook account. Myspace was first. I used it because it was fun, and I can blog on there, etc. Myspace became kind of "passe", and I had a friend who kept saying, "you should be on facebook".

I like Myspace because it's less intrusive than facebook and you can keep your name off of there completely.

I've reconnected with a ton of HS and college friends, through Facebook though, that I lost touch with over the years for some reason or another.

I enjoy both sites, though I do find myself checking and updating my facebook page almost daily, and myspace has started to lose interest with me.

Long story short, I enjoy the networking and reconnecting with old friends that I've found or who have found me through those sites.

Well, I made a facebook. I'm still trying to figure it out. I do not like having to have my whole (last) name on there. :smt105
Okay, I'm going to go play with it.

so i have a question that is not just for you but for everyone here...if what webbie is proposing goes through...how would you feel about having all of those connections that you have made on facebook see another facet of your life as facebook becomes linked with wwbm...what if they figured out that you are "bookworm" or whatever your screen name is here on the forum...now all of a sudden answering questions like, do you suck dick or do you swallow is enough to make me want to pack up my responses and make a quick exit...what does everyone think?

My thoughts: I'm me, no matter where/what website I'm on, and I won't apologize for that or change it for someone else. I've sucked (my man's) dick and I've swallowed, and if you have a problem with that, then you have a problem with that! I'm not ashamed of it. People do it. Whether they talk about it or not. If someone wants to fault me for admitting it, fuck 'em and feed 'em beans.

britty...i just used that one question as an example...if you can, please keep in mind how young you are and looking into the future some of the professional strides you would like to make in your career...employers are starting to use "facebook" as if it is a character reference...now we can debate if this should be happening but the fact of the matter is that it is happening...an employer would be more likely to google a new candidate for a job before they even check personal and professional references...

just something to keep in mind...

I know, I was just using it as an example too :)
I understand what you're saying and while I'm not really planning to take any very professional strides, incase I do and an employer decides not to hire me because they read that I suck my man's dick and swallow it (just an example) then I'm not sure I'd want to work for someone so hypocritical and naive anyway. Like I said, whatever they find is going to be me and my opinions whether they like it or not. And if they don't like it, then fine, I don't want to have to hide or pretend I'm not who I am, haven't done what I've done, don't feel how I feel, or don't believe what I believe in order to work a certain job. Whatever is meant to be, will be. :)
If my character is anything negative to them because of anything I've said on this website, then so be it. I still love me. :)

Interesting question. I've told people in my life about a site I'm on (but I won't tell them the name) because I know that the people I told would come here, could easily figure out that "bookworm" was me and read my answers to things. In fact, I have a friend that comes to mind that I absolutely know would do that, because she's THAT nosy, and frankly, I don't want her knowing all that stuff about me.

Now, she very recently got talked into starting a facebook page and was looking for my page to friend me and couldn't find it. I email with this friend daily. We exchange emails all day, every day. I actually didn't want her to be a friend on my facebook. Why? Because she doesn't need to know any more information about me than she already does. However, she put up such a fuss because she thought I had some "secret" name and I wasn't telling her, that I finally had to find her page and friend her. And of course, now she knows all there is to know about me and my college days, etc. Stuff that really is none of her business.

But, in either case, it hasn't been as big of an issue as I thought it might be. And while this sounds trivial, there are many more aspects to her as a person, that made me leery of having her have access to all of that stuff, that I won't get into here.

As for this site, I won't let my info from facebook get linked to this site. I enjoy the "anonymity" of this site and I feel freer to say stuff that I wouldn't want my friends to know. Also, I've talked about friends on here that I wouldn't want them to know about. LOL. But, even then, I don't give out as much truly personal information as others on this site.

I don't have this profile linked to any email address that anyone in my "real-life" knows about. Why? Because if I want to tell them all of this information, then I'll tell them. I don't need them purposely looking at this stuff behind my back, ya know?

Also, I don't have the company I work for (or any previous companies) on either my myspace page or my facebook - so people I work with or could potentially work with can't find me. I have a couple of coworkers as friends on facebook, but that's because I'm actually friends with them outside of work.

I also have both pages listed only under my maiden name. And they're both linked to one email that I don't give out to anyone else. LOL.

    Man, I'm sounding paranoid! :smt102 :smt081

That's another thing, if the employer can't realize that I submitted these things here anonymously and that I wasn't like, "My full name is blah blah, my SSN is blah blah, my address and date of birth is blah blah, and I suck my man's dick and swallow!!", and what that intells, then they're idiots and I'm probably better off not working for them anyway. Maybe I'm just different, but money and career don't take priority over everything else in my life. I don't feel career and salary defines anyone as much as other aspects of their lives. Unless their career is something that they aren't just doing for the money. And a professional career isn't the only option for being able to take proper care of you and your loved ones. So I feel we're going to be just fine, even if I admit private things about me anonymously.

I completely agree Books. This forum allows for a great deal of privacy that facebook lacks. I don't even have my last name on facebook and am unsearchable unless someone knows my email address. I understand the desire for privacy and feel the same way.

Lipstick - you are absolutely right about employers, professional programs at some universities, etc have been known to seek out information such as that found on facebook. Obviously a bunch of sexually suggestive or substance abuse style pics and conversations go a long way to squashing an application for a job or school. That's one of the biggest reasons that I keep eveything as private as the internet allows. One thing I cannot stand is online registration for races and things like that - it's online forever and people can get a feel for what I do for fun through that kind of thing. I've been googled and stuff I didn't even know was online was splashed on certain pages. Not fun.

One of the engineers at my company was fresh out of college and the son of one of the directors here (who happened to go to the same school) found this guy's facebook and looked at all of the drunken pictures.

They hired him, and printed out a picture from his facebook page and put it on his photo ID when they gave the ID. LOL. It's joked about to this day.

But, yeah, you have to dig pretty deep to find my pages online.

I have a facebook and myspace...
I've tried twitter...but it's only cool if you update like every 5 minutes, and my life really isn't THAT interesting, lol.

I'd keep my facebook and the forum separate...simply because there is only so much personal info I'm willing to divulge to strangers.

I'm not on any of the sites that were listed. I have one profile online right now. I've had others before.

I don't really care to have things linked to each other.
