I never heard of this guy before. Do your thing playboy Look out world. That's the message American speedskater Shani Davis had for his opponents after he blazed to pair of world records over the weekend at a World Cup event in Utah. Davis won the 1,000 and 1,500-meters in grand style, setting new marks on back-to-back days. For his efforts, he unanimously earned USA TODAY's Olympic Athlete of the Week award. The big wins closed the World Cup season and come just a week before the World Championships in Vancouver. Interestingly, Davis swiped the kilometer record from his teammate Trevor Marsciano, who had just set a mark of 1 minute, 6.88 seconds 20 minutes earlier. Davis' new mark stands at 1:06:42. His record for 1,500 meters is 1:41.80, which was 21 hundredths of a second faster than the previous mark, set last year.Davis said this weekend's meet will be an important benchmark for skaters with Olympic aspirations, since it's at the oval that will host the event at the 2010 Games. I remember him from the last Winter Games..he skated for I think the Netherlands or Denmark but not the U.S.A. There was some drama between the U.S. team and his coach/momma!!!!! He's been around for a bit but didn't get the P.R. 'cos he skated behind another flag and his momma.
