More Emotional?

This is a new topic in response to a post in another thread:

Seriously, get out of the dark ages folks (and by "folks" I mostly mean guys).
I have had it up to my adorable chin with this "women are emotional and men are logical" BS! This is a blatant falsehood. It shows lack of depth, honesty and frankly, intelligence.

(WARNING: Some of the following is very generalistic HYPERBOLE intended to make a point with some injection of humor. IF YOU ARE A TYPICALLY EMOTIONAL THIN SKINNED MAN, YOU WOULD DO WELL TO SKIP THIS POST. See, it's already started.)

NEWSFLASH: Woman and men are both emotional and logical by nature. We both have and express feelings and we both make cognitive decisions based on objective data. Woman do not have the lock on going overboard with expression of emotion and men do not have the lock on overcoming personal feelings in order to accomplish tasks.

How many men have let their anger get the better of their judgment? How man woman have taken care of their families regardless of extreme emotional duress? (Two general examples.)

What woman have (in general) is perception of distinguished emotional states. IE:If a woman is feeling negative about something, she can state with accuracy if she is indifferent, overwhelmed, sad, lonely, tired, stressed, uncomfortable or many other examples or combinations thereof. That ability to be in touch with and define emotional states is not the same as having "more" of them. Men are (in general) more likely to A: suppress the expression of the state, but not the existence of it or to B: lump all of the states into one general expression of feeling i.e. "anger".

Which brings me to the nonsense about understanding 'woman talk'. If a woman says this...it means that. Well, guess what? Guys do that too. All of the DAMNED TIME! Guys: "I'm pissed." Translation: "I noticed that you didn't do the thing that I thought you would have done by now and it reminded me of when my mother didn't do that when I was three years old but I have repressed that to the extent that I transfer all of those emotions on to any woman who gets close enough to me to care and when I see this behavior I recoil emotionally into a fetal position because I am in abject fear of being unloved and abandoned...YOU DON'T LOOOVVVE MEEEE!"

Men aren't more simple. They just speak that way. Why? Men have the emotional need to protect their egos. It is fragile and easily damaged. No man wants to admit this, so they go off on seemingly strange things emotionally to hide their insecurities and fears. This isn't logic. This is pure emotion.

Emotional behavior. Women have it. Men have it.

Oh, and fears??? Give me break. Woman can be scared of spiders. Big deal. At least spiders can in some cases kill you. Men are afraid of VEGETABLES! "What's that??? A TOMATO?? OMG, GET IT OFF MY PLATE! I TOLD YOU...NEVER..OMG...AAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

Well, extreme cases like the one posted in your youtube video aside.,. I'm not saying that men are immune to emotion. Just as I'm sure you're not saying (at least, I hope not) that no men eat vegetables. Do you deny science when it says that estrogen directly affects a womans mood?

My feelings when it comes to the Male / Female is that we are different in design, but equal in purpose. I don't think that's such a bad thing.

 

Amen to the whole post but especially the highlighted part.

Men's knee jerk reaction is to label us "getting emotional" when we're just expressing ourselves. I HATE when men do that.

What I hate even more are the passive aggressive men who don't say anything and then at one point explode dredging up everything from the present to days, weeks, months or years past that have absolutely nothing to do with anything current.

 

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Women, I think, are more open with their emotions, while guys still have the same emotions, they tend to bottle them up. That's my opinion.

 

I think men might tend to deny their emotions too and after a while maybe get a bit pathological with it.

 

Pathological or psycho LOL ... or maybe I just get involved with passive aggressives.
