I TOTALLY agree with you and fromrussiawithlove, the British have great manners. I don't know why anyone would say you guys don't. The Brits also have a way of putting you in your place in a well mannered kind of way LOL

I always love going to England. Its such a drastic change coming back home to NYC.

Some women do not care for chivalrous acts because they lend to the perception that women are too weak to do things for themselves. These ideas are often attributed to feminists, but I am a feminist, and I do not identify with these sentiments. I feel that men and women should be treated equally in matters of the law. Other than that, men and women are very different so the effort to make us equals is futile, in my opinion.

I appreciate chivalric gestures and if I'm on a date, I'm turned off by a man who does not observe such gestures. I see them as a sign of respect, which women deserve (or at least the woman you are dating deserves!)

There are many chivalric gestures that are universal in terms of sex, including holding the door open for the person who is walking directly behind you, helping someone carry heavy loads, assisting the sick/elderly in any number of tasks, and always saying please and thank you.

I remember there was one time where I was trying to be nice to these three girls entering a restaurant I was at.

The girls appeared to be in their teenage years.

So, as I'm walking into the restaurant, I notice them slightly trailing behind me so I kindly hold the door open for the first one:

She enters and doesn't acknowledge me.

The second one also enters... and also doesn't acknowledge me.

So, by the time the third one is getting ready to swoop on by without saying anything or acknowledging that I'm being polite, I let that heavy ass door go and it hit slammed into her tiny ass.

I actually felt bad about it but then after thinking it over I felt great.

You don't acknowledge or return the favor, fuck you too. :D

I'm typically a nice guy but it was something about the whole thing that kind of erked me to do so.

Maybe they were timid and didn't like to speak to strangers or maybe they didn't want me to go out of my way to do something kind. Whatever it was, I'm sure they were like ''wtf is his problem?"

I try to be polite to everybody. It's easier fot people to like you. but some people are assholes, and I don't respect people who don't respect me.

I don't like "typical" chivalrous acts but not because they lend to the notion that women are weak or whatever, I just don't like it and if the man does that with me while I'm on a date its actually a turn off ... by typical chivalrous acts I mean, pulling out my chair, helping me with my jacket, even opening the car door ... I don't know why but I just don't like it.

So say you're a lady that doesn't like the typical chivalry acts and you go out on a date w/ a guy who you just met and he's constantly being chivalrous.

Do you tell him right off the bat or do you let him annoy the hell out of you while he thinks he's doing you a favor???

I head them off at the pass...as in, I'll reach for the door first, reach for my chair first, etc. It usually works. If it doesn't, I'll say sumthin. Who knows, maybe there's someone out there who can be chivalrous without making me feel awkward and I'll change my whole line of thinking.

I was on a first date once, I went to put on my coat and he jumped up trying to help me get it on ... My response was: I can do it myself thank you. He backed off LOL

There was never a 2nd date .... hmmm maybe it was something I said :smt043

I wasn't into him anyways but I would say it to a guy right off the bat.

I like people who open doors and help with my coat. I do the same with other people too. Courtesy was a big part of our upbringing.

Me too! I see nothing wrong with a man who wants to open/hold the door for me, or helps me with my coat. I think those things are very nice. However, we'll have problems if he tries to order my food for me.
