My first cousin and his wife live in melbourne australia, we communicate from time to time by phone or email. From pics I've seen though it's beautiful country for sure but they are goddamn racists, survey after survey have clearly shown how intolerant aussies are to those who look different from them. More than one in ten aussies have admitted prejudice toward non whites I've read in the news last year that middle eastern youth were attacked by marauding white gangs in sydney's beaches. You can google that article-------You can also read this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090108050059AAS91Vx It's not secret aussies are openly racists. When an aussies woman married to a black man says she's ashamed to be aussie because of the terrible way they are being treated at the airport you know for sure how bad things are :"down under" LOL . My cousin has invited me to visit over there but I told him after the horrible things you told me about australia, why should I be there ??? He had no answer. Why should I end up like the black man you see in the clip below NO BLACK MAN SHOULD VISIT AUSTRALIA period. Ok. I am not going to say that Australia is the land of milk and honey, because that would be a totally stupid blanket statement similar to the one you are making. Australians are no more racist than people in any other country I've visited. You know, you might just find that your attitude is what people pick up on first. Maybe try being slightly less angry and stupid yourself and you may find people are nicer to you. You reap what you sew. I would suggest you pull your head out of you a$$ and try and understand something for what it is, and not some second hand information and dodgy youtube video. And if you feel SO passionately about this, why don't you go to Australia and spread the word. Go and represent black men....Change people's opinions. How's that for an idea? Yeah. It's much easier to sit back on the sidelines and yell and still do nothing.
Australia can be quite racist actually, I talked about that stuff while there, with both my own friends and random people... But it's getting better. I'd say the opposite, the more mixed the culture becomes, the better it is and less racist. So do go there.
Total bullshit. I had an Australian girlfriend who rocked my shit. Big, Amazon redhead. Off the chain I tell you. This was years ago. I know another brother who moved over there, found this hot ass blonde and never came back. His wife's friends used to ask her if they could fuck him. There was one authentic brotha on the Adelaide b-ball squad and they treated him like Jordan. Aussies may or may not have issues with the Aborigines, but African-Americans are like gold down there. Don't come on here with your BS, man.
A black man assumes that just because he's in a land where women are looking to fulfill some sexual fantasy, he's among friends that view him as an equal. Dumb. And fuck this thread.
Err, you're probably more likely to encounter some ignorant racist in the US or UK than Australia. Infact no, no matter where you go in the world there will be racist assholes, saying that though you can't boycott a whole nation because of some people. You'd have no where to live in the world.
Well, never been to Australia before, but have met a few Aussies in the UK.Well, from my experience the ones I have met have been pretty decent.I have never felt any racist vibes from Aussie people. Actually there is a Aussie chain of bars called the 'walkabout', which I have been to on several occassions, and lets just say I had fun... But I do feel that the people I happen to meet are the more liberal ones as they tend to be people on a their year out travelling, so I guess these people are not a true reflection of Aussies in general.Ultimately though, I think it depends on who you ask..Ask an aboriginal person, they would probably have a different take on how racist Australia is.
Haven't been in Australia, so I can't really comment, but my Australian neighbour was one of the first people to congratulate me on having a new bf when me and HB first started dating. I generally agree with you on the quoted statement though. Racism is nothing but fear, and the less you know something the more you fear it. So less diverse usually mean more racism.:smt045
Majority of Aussies in UK are friendly!! Incorrect in my opinion. Watching the video (If it is true..IF) it's nothing to do with attitude what so ever, get stopped at the airport 7+ times and i'm pretty sure you'll be getting a bit annoyed as well...
I think many people missed the video taped mans point entirely. He said specificly, it wasnt the individual actions he found racist, but the governments agenda at stopping and detaining all black men. Arguing at the individual Austrailians you have come across are not racist doesnt add to or dissuade his statement that the Australian government has racist policies.
my older blk neighbor who traveled often in her life told me not to go to austrialia even though i think ausralia looks pretty awesome because australins tend to be overly racist and judgemental
Hmm. yeah. But, surely there is a precedent which has triggered this. I know for a fact that the customs people target asians coming back to Australia. Why? Because CONSISTENTLY they ignore the rules on what you can or can't bring back into the country. If they didn't do this, then obviously there would no particular reason to target this group. It's called profiling. Law enforcement agencies everywhere do this. Sure, it can appear racist. and perhaps in many instances it is...and there will ALWAYS be people who abuse their power and the system. I am not saying that any of this doesn't happen. ---- end of response to that poster... I still think the OP was quite ignorant in his statements. I agree with the comment about African Americans from other posters in this thread. But, all in all - if you don't like it don't come. Your loss, I would say. and if the OP's cousin hates it so much, then he should leave too...Leave more room for people who want to live there. For him, there's 1000 others beating down the doors. EDIT: and seriously. That yahoo thing - using that as your backup - OMG. Their argument was about the convict days. 200 years ago. So, should we say that all americans are racist because they used to be slave masters. Oh. give me a break. Those people are as stupid as you. FYI - 30% of australians are foreign born.
Oz is a wonderful country. KC,I believe you. When my ex from Queensland broke up with me she did not let her friends write to me. The women love the chocolate.
plse dont judge Oz by this, until you come and experience our wonderful This was actually aired on one of our Aussie channels and I think it was called "Airport Security", this was one of many couples stopped and checked, I will admit that he was the only black man stopped on the shows I watched, and trust me they stop MANY no matter the color of their skin. I was stopped four times entering the US, and I did not complain and carry on, I did what they said and went on with it, and shall I add that I was travelling with a very dark skinned Carribean man from St Lucia, but I was the one being checked because I was from another country. This happens all over the world no matter where you are from. Add to the mix a twenty four hour flight and ofcourse any delay becomes a drama, I did feel for him, but honestly I did not see it as racism, nor would I have made it worse for myself by adding more delay by arguing the point with security. I will also add re-entering my own country i was pulled aside and checked once again, it happens, and that is life. I am an Aussie who only dates blk men, always have and always will, and I get nothing but wonderful feedback from friends and family. They are never rude, and never racist, I wouldnt expect any different from them. Oz is a beautiful country, keep an open mind and you may be nicely suprised ~ not all aussies are racist!
I will like to bring these points as i was a victim of the same thing in Chipol airport/Holland. My passport had to be check by the so called immigration specialist... One of my south-african colleague was once arrested because she could not provide her hotel address to the police officer even though she had her passport at that moment... Unfortunately this is the way most westernize countries are treating Africans of certain nationalities these days. To be honest with you this man was treated like that because he is (was) west-african. And these immigration guys did not care if he already enter Australia Previously ... I will admit that anyone might go through that process but it looks like compulsory to most africans travelling to the west, nothing can justify why he as been checked 7 times when entering Australia (7/8 is not a random thing). In my opinion there is so much institutionalized racism in the west (That my personal experience, i beleive a country like Zimbabwe is doing the same to their white minorities), most of these people do not openly admit it. I strongly beleive their management/government should be blame for that as the immigration officers are just implementing those instructions given by the top guys. The real world is unfortunately not like in this forum. Racism still there... Most people might not be racist these days , but the racist minority make so much noise and the goods people stay quiet about it.
Yes, thats true... But my response was aimed at the OP who was branding all Australians as openly racist, which is not true from my experience. With regards to the Australian government policies, I Know they use to have past racist policies(white only policy). Maybe they do have latent racist policies I dont know..
