TNT PUTS BARKLEY ON THE BENCH: Move Comes Following Results Of Blood Alcohol Test Following DUI Bust.
    (January 12, 2009)

TNT has announced that Charles Barkley will take a leave of absence from his job as NBA commentator following results from blood work taken during his recent DUI arrest.

Barkley refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the scene, but, his blood-alcohol level was found to be 0.149, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

The retired NBA forward was pulled over Dec. 31 in Scottsdale, Ariz., at 1:27 a.m. after officers saw him run a stop sign. During his arrest, Barkley told police he had been on his way to get oral sex—hence his haste—before he was stopped.

"When I spoke with Charles, he was apologetic for the events that transpired and it was obvious he understood the significance of this situation," Turner Sports president David Levy wrote in an email to Bloomberg.com. He's due back in court on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.

lol. I really don't wanna go over this, okay! To put this in perspective, Obama improved on the last Democratic candidate's performance in every region of the country. However, in a country in which 80% of its citizens currently disapprove strongly of the performance of its outgoing incumbent President, John McCain actually performed better than Bush in the South. Obama won no more than 1 out of every 10 southern white votes.

Keep in mind that even Republicans are among those who disapprove.

Doesn't that tell you anything about the South?

If it were a Southeastern state with many Northern and midwestern transplants like North Carolina, Virginia and my home state of Florida, then i'd have given Barkley a slim chance. Afterall, Obama won all of these states, despite pollsters not giving him much of a chance.

But Alabama is as "deep south" as you can get.

Barkley better not quit his day job!
