Can you tell me how much a room in the university neighbourhood (NYU or/and Columbia) could cost (rent/month)? Are there any good website that could help me? I am thinking of possibly moving over there for a few months to write my Thesis (I am doing my MA in Political Science). So all I need would be a room, good libraries and a quiet place to write! Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
probably a whole lot...are you looking for a studio or just a room that is being rented out?? it is probably a little cheaper to live in brooklyn or the bronx and commute...well actually you are basically in harlem so maybe able to find something not shell shocking
You are looking around $2500 - $3000 a month for an apartment. Most just have roomates (5) and split the rent amongst each other if you are a College Student. http://www.forrent.com/ Cheers!
Yeah no shit and that studio for 2 grand is smaller than a closet. Madel: Is there a reason why you want to live next to NYU etc ? That area is super expensive. You would save money living in one of the buroughs but you'd have to commute. A studio in Brooklyn for example would still run you over $1,000 depending on neighborhood ofcourse.
That's actually high for Southern Arizona, I could get a 3 bedroom house in Tucson for 650. It may not be in the best neighborhood, but not the worst either.
In Ohio, you can get a two-bedroom apartment for under $500. The cost of living is pretty low compared to New York and California
Wow - ok more reasons to think about moving. $960 for 2 bedroom townhouse is a really good deal where I'm at.
I would imagine New York may offer a higher income bracket (wages) to compensate for the higher cost of living compared to other States like Ohio. There are some who live in 2 - 3 bedroom apartments for under $1000.00 in New York. However, they have held on to those apartments for decades which are rent stabilized. Which in turn, is passed over to their children. With the economic crisis affecting everyone, many are moving out of NYC & into Brooklyn, Bronx & Queens. Although, Brooklyn has turned into a very hot spot (Note: Expensive) throughout the years based upon lush Apartment developments due to ample amount of space. It is actually more expensive to live in certain parts of NYC than Long Island & Connecticut! However, to coin the phrase "Yes! I live in the City" has its price and, many wouldn't dare live outside NYC. Cheers!
You're in the entertainment and financial capital of the nation. Everyone wants to be there. People can't wait to get out of Temple, Texas or Akron, Ohio or Lincoln, Nebraska and to go NYC.
Yeah. Brooklyn neighborhoods such as Williamsburg is getting pretty pricey. Your best bet is to try around the boroughs or, dare I say, New Jersey. You won't get Ohio prices for rental space, but you'll get away from the rediculous Manhattan prices plus you have ample access to public transportation into NYC. Of course as Complex stated, living in Manhattan, regardless of if its Lower East Side or Morningside Heights or Park Ave., has its own appeal. I know people who practically are willing to starve themselves for a closet size apartment in Manhattan. I like the city but I think I like eating more.
If you're willing to live in a town of about 2500 people, you can get a 3 bedroom townhouse near my parents' town for about 400 bucks a month. I paid 275 for a decent 2 bedroom apartment for a while.
