I have several role models across the racial spectrum. They are the following: Frank Sinatra = Who tirelessly for decades fought the entertainment community to accept blacks. He was given the NAACP Award for Recognition for his efforts. He stood by his friend Sammy Davis Jr. during his most emotional times on his interracial datings and his eventual interracial marriage. Sidney Poitier = I hope I spelled his name correctly. For his courage and committment to his wife after so many years. He is totally dedicated to her and to his children. What a role model for me. Bruce Lee = An extraordinary man who married outside of his race and took a lot of flack from his community for it. He did not care for the racial bigotry of his time. It was his devotion to learning that makes him a role model for me and his devoted love for his wife and children. Thurgood Marshall = His interracial marriage serves as a foundation for me in that he left behind a heritage based on equality and on the example he lived his own life. His son carries on that legacy. These men stand out for me as role models who saw beyond race and were not afraid to take a stand, to live their own lives, stood by their friends and left for all of us a better tolerance of those different than ourselves.
Frank gets props from me too.. funny enough, my coworkers were just talking about the Rat Pack and their acceptance of Sammy, when it wasn't cool to be going around town, with a brotha
