"The royal family said the 'paki' term was a nickname for a friend in his platoon."

Even if it wasn't, I'm not sure how that would be racist. Pakistanis aren't a race, they're a nationality of people. Paki looks like an abbreviation for the country Pakistan, so if they get offended by that, they should be offended just from living there.

Over here Paki would be used as a derogatory term. I've never heard it used in a good way. The guys uncle said on the news this morning that he even thought it was derogatory. He's an idiot, also on the video he called someone a raghead and a few years ago dressed up as a nazi for a costume party on some significant day relating to WWII (can't remember the day though). I don't really like the royals.

For people outside of the UK, the term Paki doesnt really seem racist, because it is essentially the shorterned version of Pakistani. However, because of the past association of the word with racist/anti-immigration groups in the UK, it is now seen as highly derogatory in the UK. I would go as far as saying its similar to a white person in the USA/UK calling a black person a nigger. Also if you take into account the sensitivity of the huge South Asian Population in the UK, Harry really should have thought before opening his mouth.

I personally dont even think Harry is racist though, I think he probably got really comfortable with the people he was around and let his guard down.

Lord knows what they'd call you if you lived in Pakastan.

Those middle-eastern types are so racist..especially against Black people..i don't give a fuck about taking up for them when they get a dose of racism from whites.

hmm. I have to admit to use the term racist to cover even hate against ethnic groups, nationalities and so on. I don't really know what to call it otherwhise? xenophobia doesn't exactly roll off the tounge.

But yeah, Harry acts like a complete wanker. Paki is not a nice thing to say.. raghead is equally bad I'd say.

I don't understand those racists and their ignorance. One song I heard on a 20/20 piece on hooligans:"I rather be a paki than a turk". Harry is one daft guy.

This doesn't surprise me, isn't this the same Prince Harry who donned a swastika for a halloween costume?
