I just wanted to create this topic to get some advice from folks who workout and eat healthy. I just want a few opinions on what are good foods to eat to get healthy. Im sexy and all:smt060, but I have a few pants i like to get into perfectly and well I need more energy in my step. And I spent wayyyy too much on shirts not to wear them right . also living till 99 would be nice also :)

Now I have been sick for like 3 weeks before the new year, but around the last week of December, I started my cardio and lifting. I also now eat wheat brread and brown rice with my veggies for lunch and dinner (along with meat but not as much as i use to). I really have cut back on my sugars by about 85%..I do sneak a small slice of cake in there once a week. I mean small slice

I do have my two fruit snacks in the middle of the day as well to keep me going..Now I have lost about 20 pounds in 3 weeks and I do feel the differance and all, but I wish to know other folks eating recipies so I can make more halthy foods. I like what I eat and it has made a difference in my body . However, I wish to know what other folks do for their workout and eating to stay fit and healthy.

Basicaly I want to live longer, look better, and well hey being healthy make you a better lover :p.. I know this sounds vain and all, but I hope we can all share our healthy meals with each other to make our lives better. Also workout rountines and cardio advice would be nice also .

Dont mean to get off the normal topics here, but I figure since there is no HEALTH section to ask the folks on here how they get and stay healthy and active :weedman:

Hi Art, I am no workout guru, but I do have one thought that made me giggle (it's important to laugh at yourself, lol) and that is to stay away from the weedman: :weedman: he just makes you eat bad stuff and takes away that energy in your step.

I thought all your reasons for getting healthier than today are great, I have bolded them to illustrate. Well done!

For me, I am active everyday as much as possible. I have started swimming 3 times a week, and the other 4 days I do whatever for cardio such as running, or group classes at the gym. I keep those 4 days flexible to keep the interest up. Also yoga is essential for my state of mind and to keep me bendy and grounded. All of these structured activities allow me to ski or snowboard without dying, I can surf alright, I love to hike (running helps with hiking endurance) and other random activities are all helped with the basic level of fitness that we are both striving for....

For food, I follow the Canada food guide, I believe the US has a great food pyramid which I also like a lot. If I want a snack, like you I reach for the fruit or veggies.

Great job on burning off 20 pounds - awesome!!!

Make all your food from scratch, that way you know exactly what you're eating. Throw out all your unhealthy food as it's just too darn tempting. Easy thing to make is homemade soup, try making lentil, it's great for you and really easy. Just cut up carrots, leeks, onions and boil with lentils and stock. Tastes great too. Soup is great because it's basically just vegetables or whatever and it fills you up. Oh, STOP EATING SALT (if you do). Don't eat white bread, stick to wholegrain pasta too. Err, just stick to drinking water or something like diluting juice, not sure what you Yanks call it, like orange you add water to? Just try eating things that are more natural and unprocessed. There's nothing like eating something great you made all by yourself, beats a microwave meal anyday. Just stick to it :D.

Barley is on the soup isle of most big stores..It comes in a box with the Quaker oats guy on the front.

Barley gives you energy like mad..sweeten with honey and your flying all day.

Earl grey is sold everywhere too.

i find in the morning i need extra energy so instead of drinking coffee or soda i find that making a strawberry smoothie actually wakes you up and gives you more energy plus it is healthy for you. :smt002

Wow ok I like these suggestions and thanks for answering my questions on Barley and Earl Grey tea(move over Picard) :).

Let me ask what is good for cleaning your body out? I heard cranberry juice once a month was good as well any other cleaning recommendations?

    Wassup Art,

I eat a number of meals per day. It ranges from 5 to 8 depending on my goals.

I believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Start your day with a nutritious meal and you'll have a better chance at staying on track throughout the remainder of the day. I pretty much eat the same breakfast every day. Oatmeal with 3 fruits and 2 eggs. The fruits I choose are bananas for their sweetness, 1 berry (blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, cranberry, etc) because they're stupendously nutritious and another fruit such as an apple or peach. My breakfasts are high in calories but it works for me.

The other meals, like breakfast, are based on whole foods. Whole foods are those which are unprocessed or have minimal processing before they're consumed. Brown rice is considered a whole food while white rice, because of it being bleached and having parts of the original grain removed, is not.

I'm one who doesn't know a lot if any recipes but I focus on eating fruits, vegetables, legumes, lean meats and healthy fats such as olive oil, nuts (walnuts and almonds) and seafood. 90 to 95 percent of my meals are this way. I haven't been sick in well over a year and I believe it's solely because of how I eat.

Barley is great for you. I like it savory, mixed with veggies etc. The only down thing about it is that it takes a while to cook up .. 45min - hour stovetop.

It also comes in bags btw. Goya makes it I believe and its in where the beans are in my supermarket.

I stay away from the carbs. I don't eat bread, no pasta, no rice. I do have oatmeal a couple days a week sometimes. I have an Organic all natural Flax cereal in the morning with soy milk. I like tuna salads made with only mustard no mayo. I like egg white omelets or scrambled eggs made with Egg Beaters. Greek 0% fat yogurt - that stuff tastes like you're eating whipped cream its DELICIOUS !!!!

As for exercise on my good days/weeks I do a 45 minute run, some free weights and pilates.

Weed only makes you eat bad stuff if you let it!

When I get the munchies I much prefer to munch out on fruits. Strawberries, kiwis, bananas, mmmmmmmmmm. I'll slice up a bunch and make a real fruit salad with all my favorite fruits, then squeeze a bit of grape juice, right from the grape, over it all so there's no need for any of those stupidly fattening "fruit dressings"...then I toke up and munch out on something delicious and nutritious!

But I'm a smart pothead. Definitely in the minority! >.>

    Apple Cider Vinegar

The benefit of apple cider vinegar (ACV) in cleansing your body is incredible. For some of us this is great because we don't mind the taste...for others the idea of adding 3 or 4 tablespoons of AVC to 8 oz of water three times a day is just not tolerable. If you can do it; ACV WILL clean you out naturally.

More fruit! Drink smoothies for breakfast and let them contain lots of berries, they help your body with everything basically. And yeah, eat a good breakfast in general.. Green tea is good to drink too.
Eat spicy food since it rises the metabolism, and eat at regular intervals and not too close to bed time.
And yeah, if you can, try to work out in the mornings, it gets the body going. When I jog I usually do it before breakfast, that wakes up the metabolism.

The cranberries are great for your body, you can drink that a lot more often then once a month. Blueberries are also really good for the immune system.. ah like I said BERRIES are your friend.

Try making spinage soup, its easy and healthy.. more or less just use spinage, water, some milk and spices, and you're there. An egg (boil it and cut in halfs and add to soup just before eating) too if it feels boring with just spinage.
