I was flipping through the channels the other night and came across this show and I started to think. The first thing that came to my mind was how they included black women from the pool of eligable bachelorettes but on a show where there is not 1 but 3 eligable bachelors how could they not find one successful black man with kinda over protective mother. Then again thinking about it with so many of the women on the show being white NBC would probably be very uncomfortable with the possibilty that a romance between a black man and a white woman could develop.

Then as I watched there came a part of the show where the mothers intoduced themselves through previously rcorded video and one mom in particular stood out. She plainly stated that the woman her son ends up with has to fit 2 criteria 1. she has to be white 2. she has to listen to her. Mind you that this woman herself is Iraqi.

Here the video where she lays it out:

Wouldnt you know it though later in the season her son is making out with one of the women that she would deem unfit to be her daughter in law. Needless to say that she is not happy when she witnesses this.

    There's your answer.

Thats probably the same reason why they will never have a Black bachelor on Abc................

Exactly. But let me ask ya'll this plainly. IS ANYONE PARTICULARLY SURPRISED???? This is N B C. Like the whitest network there is. Did ya'll really think even one of the eligible bachelors would be black? Of course not. Remember, remember, remember. The MAJORITY of America is WHITE. The MAJORITY of the television-viewing audience is WHITE. Know your history. Black's haven't belonged on America television since tv was created. They've made us every ugly jigaboo derogatory stereotype there is ever since to keep us off of tv. Television is for fair-skinned people. Period.

And ya'll are actually shocked that an Iraqi woman/mother wants her son to end up with a white girl???? Wake up people. ALL ethnic groups that come here are white-washed. Everything white is good and everything black is bad. So avoid the blacks at all costs. But by all means, people. Remain naive. When the black girls are ONLY dating the white boys on tv, don't come running to me screaming. That's why I watch "Real Chance of Love" on VH1. Because of the racial issues on dating shows, I would not have watched at first. But the Givens' brothers put together a great cultural mix of girls and they have a good cult following. That's the only way a black man will be the feature on ANY dating show. Not on one of those crispy creme networks. Again, wake up folks. JAMAL SPUNKY, where are u to weigh in??? I need your input. I know you feel me on this one.

lol,are you kidding me?I avoid ANYTHING on the Vh1 channel.Every show is something of a minstrel show.Look at the non black females on the show with chance and real. They are usually ghetto or white trashy, not even comparable to the females them white bachelors "get" on abc,or nbc LOL.Most of the females on that show seem to be the lowest of the low

This is what ive been saying

They have no problem giving a show to a bunch of brothers who are walking stereotypes.Flava flav, real & chance(even though i think they are hilarious, they still are walking sterotypes of black guys),and etc,and put a bunch of ghetto, loud, ignorant, unattractive, females in there as the "bachelorette" contestants

but have a problem with giving a well put together, articulate, educated, successful, handsome black male a show with classy, attractive females from all walks of life, competing for his "love".

    thats some bullshit

Oh, you're right Malikom. I usually don't watch VH1 or very many dating shows anymore, but they do put stereotypes on to compete for black dudes. But as sad as it sounds, at least they're on. Could you imagine NBC or ABC pitching the ball around in their offices about putting Flavor of Love on REGULAR TV???? Come on, they probably would have laughed.

The fact is white america sees any type of black relationship as dysfunctional compared to theirs. And to put a clean cut, well-educated, wealthy brother on the Bachelor or one of these others would be too threatening for them. Plus, it would in their eyes promote the dreaded interracial dating. America will never change. They'll use a latin dude or even an asian guy, hell a light-skinned brotha before they EVER put a dark skinned black man on major tv like that. And that's just f'd up.:smt011

As Chris Rock so eloquently put it, the only thing that annoys me more than racism is black people that are shocked at racism. I really do not know how long we have to argue out this point. We're talking about a network that won't even let black people headline its nightly news except on weekends (when no one is watching) and whenever Brian Williams is away - and even thats no guarantee. Well, what did you think?

You may not know it, but black people have been made into one-dimensional caricatures. So anything that isn't a cutout of preconceived notions and schemas just doesn't bring in viewers, its simple. Its the reason why the likes of Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg have commercial appeal and Talib Kweli and Angie Stone do not.

    Seriously, it's that simple.

The Funny Thing About It Is

...one of the stereotypical things that you hear alot of times about us as black men is that WE ARE ALL MOMMA'S BOYS in a way for so many reasons mostly bad, so saying that to say it seems natural to me that NBC would maybe have at least cast one bro & his mom on this show.:smt017 But oh well...:smt108

I don't watch network TV as much as I used to, shows like this is another reason. I can see that explanation of not having enough black men and/or lack of diversity in TV shows these days. Unfortunately, the majority of black men on TV (and music and in some movies) lately have been portrayed as gangbangers, thugs, and rappers, and in reality this is not the case.

And I am boycotting Vh1, since it went in the same route as BET and MTV, primarily with what I considered to be the most racist show I have heard of in my life, The White Rapper Show.

I couldn't agree more. It's like I said unless something is said by us in the entertainment industry, it's going to always be this way.

And speaking of the one dimensional theory:
It is like the mainstream black actresses having interracial love scenes while the mainstream black actors complain that black women might be upset by it. There are some black people out here that think that it is
only racist if white people do it, because if the word was that white audiences were upset denzel, will smith and so on will ALL!! cry racism, but since it's black women oh then being upset is now right.
Racism seems to be one dimensional in hollywood too.

    BTW
I like shows like flavor of love and real chance of love and now you got
ray j having one called "For the love of Ray J"...But I like it because of the
wild entertainment and nothing more because I think those "for love" shows are trying to be entertaining more than serious, other than that I can't really get into these dating competition shows because of the fact that your competing to date someone is demoralizing to me. Aint nobody in this world that special to compete for. I don't even like it when girls say "you have to win me over". Unless you are already my girlfriend and I done did something wrong, NO I DON'T HAVE TO WIN YOU! Im just trying to get to know you.....Anybody feel me on this.
