To the people with Black american/carribean backround, have you ever taken one of those African ancestry tests to pinpoint what tribe and nation your ancestors were from?Ive heard that carribean blacks are primarily ghanian and black americans are primarily nigerian(igbo, and woloof).Anybody know if this is true or not?

Yeah, and to a lesser extent south africa(angola area)

I remember watching "African american lives" on pbs.Its where they trace black celeberties roots

Henry louis Gates(host of the show) found out he was a descendant of yoruba people, and an irish king

I saw a commentary on this on TV and the black guy who did it said he was real excited to find his ancestry, but when it came back his primary forefather was from Europe, and was white. He was a bit disappointed.

Yeah, most blacks int he carribean are from ghana and the non black admixtures in the carribean are primarily spanish and white
While most Blacks int he U.S hail from the Nigeria area and have admixtures of anglo saxons, except for maybe new oreleans blacks(creoles for example),where alot of spanish/french ancestry as well.

I think those videos are awesome, I've always loved to study ancestry, and it's beautiful to see the history people have.

Alot of carribean and black americans are primarily from the English speaking West African countries located along the Atlantic ocean mainly Ghana and Nigeria.the portuguese for example succeeded in getting alot of people from the then Gold coast(now Ghana) to the Caribbean. The portuguese actually built castles(known as the Elmina and the Cape Coast Castlein Ghana) which were mainly meant for this activity and also to gain access to alot of resources in that region...to be continued.......
