Jim Warren Jones and The Peoples Temple...

I never really under stood what really went down or the magnitude of the Jim Jones tragedy in 1978 because I was so young. Watching the CNN special on it a few days ago left me feeling woozy and sick to my stomach. To be beguiled, seduced, lied to, betrayed and mesmerized by a man to the point where so many men and women took their own lives is something I cannot fathom.

I feel so sorry for all the children who never had a chance to say I don't want to commit revolutionary suicide. To wonder what it must be like to hold your child while he or she foams at the mouth shaking violently from cyanide laced punch and realize what a horrific mistake you've made. To wonder what it must have been like for those who did not take the poison but were stuck with needles as Jones's henchman and women walked around sticking people who were hesitant and resistant or god forbid if you ran you were shot by the guards to ensure everyone died…

To wonder after all those people who were killed how two elderly people were completely overlooked sleeping in the medical ward were not shot, stuck with needles or given something to drink. What could have gone through their minds when they were awakened by law enforcement and told everyone killed themselves; except you two. The Jonestown suicide prior to 9/11 was the greatest single loss of American civilian life in a non-natural disaster, nine hundred is LARGE, LARGE NUMBER of people to perish…

I understand rappers are tough guys with a lot of street cred riding on their names and actions but why or earth would Joseph Guillermo Jones II a.k.a rapper Jim Jones would want his stage name associated with such a evil human is beyond me. Perhaps he like me was completely unaware of the insidious legacy of the fork tongued Jim Jones....

I read about this in a book about cults I bought. It was absolutely horrible, I felt like "how could these people be so naive and stupid to fall for him?!" but he seduced them and they truly believed him. What you said about babies foaming at the mouth through cyanide poisioning made my throat go weird. These children didn't have a choice. I wonder if the people ever doubted taking their own and their children's lives once they'd poisioned themselves. Argh, makes me sick to even think about it. There's been many other suicide pacts within cults. I feel like these people don't truly choose to die though. They're totally mislead.

On the matter of Jim Jones the rapper, god knows what he was thinking. He's an idiot. Probably just trying to be cool. I don't get why you'd name youself after him, well then again Marylin Manson named himself after Charles Manson. But that dudes really odd anyway.

 

Which is why I'm very skeptical when it comes to following someone who claims to be a "man of god".

I wouldn't be surprised if Pastor James David Manning of ATLAH ministries in Harlem New York becomes the next in line to do something of this magnitude.

WOW!! That's insane!

I have never heard a black man speak to his own people like that. It's horrible! You may be right that he could be just like Jim Jones. I was watching the expressions on the faces of the others on the platform, and they were like zombies. That is very scary.

He doesn't read the same Bible I do, nor does he hear from the same God.
Hopefully people will see the truth, and not be disillusioned by his stupidity.

Thank you Malik, I am definately getting an education here. I had not heard about him either. Maybe I should watch more news, instead of working 80 hrs a week, ya think?

I'm not surprised by his claim to be Jesus Christ, the Lord spoke about that in Matt. 24:24 saying that false Christs and false profits, would arise and do great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

Languages are funny that way, I've seen the same word used a number of different ways around here, something that may be offensive in one place quite innocent in another!! Spanish is the same way, some words are very regional.
