I was like WTF when she said that about DMX - I mean he seemed okay on Soul of a Man or whatever that show was called but have you read the stuff he's done, one of the charges he apparently went down for was animal abuse/neglect. I kinda like T.I's music, I like Swagga Like Us minus Weezy's verse. I appreciate Lil Wayne's skill and he has a few okay songs but he annoys me. Kanye and Jay killed it IMO. I also like No Matter What because of what the song's about. Generally speaking however I'm not really into Southern stuff, good to dance to though. But give me some Gang Starr anyday and I'll be a really happy white girl

The crack really must've gotten to X. No hardships in West Coast rap? Is that mufucka serious? I take it he''s never heard of NWA, Above the Law, Tweedy Bird Loc, South Central Cartel, CMW, Kam, WC Paris(who's new cd I just picked up, he's basically a one man Public Enemy from the Bay Area), and a bunch of other West Coast rappers that cover hardships and shit folks can relate to.

As for southern shit, I like it. But not the bubblegum snap shit on the radio. The 90's G-Funk shit, with the laid back deep bass ass shit. Love the G-Funk sound, more on the West coast bust I love the southern G-Funk. Lyrically in the south, I'm not impressed, aside from the Geto Boys.

I used to be a lil wayne fans back in like 99 when I was a dumb ass 5th grader with no taste in actual hip-hop. Plus lil wayne looked like my god brother(back then at least) so that was another reason. I'm not even gonna get into detail about his snails pace slow in his "freestyles" and his god awful punchlines("I'm so high, I could eat a star? I'm a venereal disease like menstruation?") LAME!!!! lil wayne needs to get his shit together too. Always fucked up on syrup n' shit.

And I like how DMX disses the west coast, but then he did a song with Jayo Felony.

Glad to see their is somebody who knows about MCs AND producers. Primo makes some sick beats. My favorite Primo beat is Represent by Nas and NY State of Mind by Nas. I'm more on west coast producers though like Battlecat, Warren G, TC and Cold187 because they use live instrumentation in their production, as with a lot of 90s west coast music.

And yeah, Oukast is cool. I like their older more laid back shit. Players Ball is a sick track.

 

Yeah, I'm a little hip hop head really. I've never ever met a guy who I can talk about music to for hours because they don't always know what they're talking about. I just read Wikipedia too much and some *cough* music falls off trucks onto my computer harddrive *cough* So I know a lot about a lotta stuff.

I really need to listen to more West Coast hip hop. I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to the West Coast. I mean I obviously know about the mainstream stuff like NWA, Luniz etc... but I just haven't got around to listening to much of it, I need some reccomendations.

My favourite MC's are always Talib Kweli and Mos Def. I want another Blackstar album. Sooo happy Mos is dropping another album. I thought he'd given up on music for acting, but no His last album wasn't that great so hopefully this one will be good. Also happy bout Common's new album coming out. My other favourites are obviously the Wu Tang, I had the pleasure of goin to London to see them earlier this year - was immense, even though I find London a little scary (lol). 8 Diagrams was okay, coulda been better. Uhh, obviously like Hova, Nas, Mobb Deep etc. I also saw Red N Meth earlier this year which was also pretty good. I'm going to the UK Rock the Bells in a couple weeks (unfortunately co-incides with GZA's show) but at RTB Nas, Pharcyde and Mos Def will be there... so far. Hoping there's more I go to way too many shows.

Oh and I like Warren G, well actually I like Regulate, but everyone likes that. See! I really need to learn my shit on West Coast. Should I be ashamed I'm going to see The Game in December?! Lol. I'm getting a lot of hassle for that. Minus the name dropping (honestly, stop mentioning 100 names in your songs) and stupid facial tattoos I think he's cool.

 

I could talk about hip-hop for days. Luckily I got some friends who are hella deep into hip-hop like me, cause it's hard to find anybody these days who like old school shit, or just good hip-hop that isn't force fed through mtv, vh1, niggatainment television. Shit seems to just fall onto my hard drive. Nothing big, just *cough*60 gigs*sneeze*.:grin:

West Coast shit is my favorite. You should really check more of the shit out. NWA is my favorite group(Eazy being my favorite member and rapper of all time). Of course in general, the west ain't touchin' the east lyrically, but there are still some lyrical rappers(The DOC being one of them, highly respected in hip-hop). But the production in the west is what gets me the most. My favorite MCs and rappers are NWA as a group, Eazy, Kool Mo Dee, Big L, Ice Cube. If you haven't heard Big L's music, you should check him out. He's a beast. Not like lil wayne beast. I mean this dude really deserves the title beast and one of the greatest MCs ever. He was up there with Pac and Big.

I was gonna go to Rock the Bells in Atlanta in 07, but I got there a day late and missed out. I was pissed.

And warren G has hella sick productions. I love his shit(not just Regulators:grin:, but a lot of his shit from his albums and other albums he has produced on).

As far as the Game......................no comment. While I don't like the Game, I can't deny what he's done for bringing the west back, and I've heard some sick verses from him, like his verse on WC's West Caost Voodoo song and DPG's Anybody Killa song. But his name dropping gets hella annoying. Damn near every song, "Cruisin' in my 64 like Eazy, RIP Pac, Big ups to BIG". I was glad like any other die hard Eazy fan when E got his props but damn, that shit was too much. Plus, there was the beef with the Game and lil Eazy-E where supposedly the Game claimed to be Eazy's son(The fuck??).
