A shame,Terrance is 1 of my fav actors...
What I want to know is,how did they go,from Terrance howard,to Don cheadle?
This reminded me of what jamalspunky said, about Hollywood having a knack for putting unattractive, but good acting Black male sidekicks, with the attractive white male main character(hero).................

Dont get me wrong,DCis a good actor.I just dont see him playing the part.I mean, why would DC want to play the role of a sidekick in a superhero movie anyway?Isnt that sort of a step down for him?

Maybe, but in the first Iron Man movie there was a scene that indicated that the character played by TH would don the suit in the future. In the comic books a BM wore the suit and was Iron Man for a while when Stark was unable to do it himself.

Yeah,in the comic, james rhodes became Iron Man then War machine,if I remember correctly.
Of course, look what happened to Superman when he was temporarily killed off.....Steel...played by Shaq...DAMN LAKERS!!!!!

Morris Chestnut would have been a way better choice. That brotha needs a new agent.

    GREAT CHOICE!!!!!!
Plus he would have been cheaper....
No knock on DC, but him in IM2 replacing TH seems out of place for some reason....

Its' kinda of sad...since Cheadle had his first lead role in a commercial film "Traitor". This career move is probably for the exposure and to keep his name out there especially with the 18-30 male demo.I suspect Howard went to better projects than just being second billing in another comic book movie....listening Halle?

I still haven't gotten around to commenting on this issue but until I do I thought I'd leave a great post from another site about this move. This is a black amn who, if doesn't see the larger issue at play, at lest understands that there is something absurd about the switch.:

Do they understand that people are talking about how Terrence and Don look nothing alike. If Terrence was going to be replaced(partially thanks to his not so bright agent/broker, etc.,)Marvel should have gotten an actor who resembled Terrence for franchise continuity. Since he was killed off of CSI, GARY DOURDAIN should have been highly considered for this recasting. People are going to instantly notice an on-screen difference between the two actors; Don & Terrence!! Great acting or not, you can't fool the public. Don is much darker in skin tone, reminscent of a Welsey Snipes or a Isaiah Washington. Terrence resembles Gary Dourdain and Micheal Early in skin tone. I am African-American and there is not enough set lighting and Photoshop-style editing in the world to make Don and Terrence resemble each other for franchise continuity! Also, the female bloggers are saying Don is not desirable and does not have that on screen swagger like Terrence. We all know that you have to have these traits to make you a star in Hollywood nowadays with these reality shows! Even though he will be covered in metal as Warmachine, ladies would rather see Terrence save them. From a male point of view, we would not have guys as our real life friends hanging around us if they couldn't be ladies' men as well!(picture Robert & Don hanging out!) To those who think this recasting is not a big deal, it is, because they're would not be so many entertainment blog posts and repost after repost on this Ironman 2/Avengers casting!!

I disagree with the whole reality TV comment but this post is mostly spot on. I love Cheadle but his casting is a joke. Below is a link to the post which was a comment to an interview with one of the screenwriters. The screenwriter refutes some of the junk that is out there.

:( I loved Terrence Howard as James Rhodes. I was so excited when I found out he was playing Rhodes in the movie before it was released, and I was so looking forward to him suiting up in the sequel. Ah well.

But in the cartoon Rhodes was a darker brother with a deeper voice, I don't know how or why they picked Terrance in the first place. Terrance will always be the brother who exposes women and their games to me, the Best Man, Love Beat the Hell Outta Me and Hustle and flow. There is a term for it, it's slipping my mind right now.

I'm curious to what kind of roles Howard gets due to his complexion.Fair skin Black are either pretty boy toys or uppity in a lot of "black"movies..so I wondered what roles does he get offered.

Rhodes in the comics is also a tall, muscular dude with abover average looks and a full head of hair. How does Cheadle fit that description? And Rhdoes in the comic is not as dark as Cheadle either. Sorry gotta go with Howard. I gotta do what Hollywood does when it comes to casting white actors these days: go for the pretty boy. I mean how does Hugh Jackman play Wolverine? I've been asking this for years and everytime I do people act as if I'm crazy and talk about how perfect Jackman is as that character. Really? The makeup/hair department gave Jackman a Wolvering wig and side burns. Other than that Jackman looks nothing like the character. Wolverine is a short, overly hairy dude with average looks at best. But Hollywood chose a dude who just ended up being named People's "Sexiest Man Alive" to play the role. I mean who here ten years or more ago ever considered Wolverine being played by some beefcake actor? Not me. However I should have known better.

Lets get real: the guys behind the Iron man movie even tried to tone down Howard's sex appeal by not giving him much of anything to do and by also giving him a bad haircut (even for a military guy). Now with that in mind think of movies like Spiderman and the recent Batman film. Did the folks behind those flicks consider given the supporting roles to white guys wit average looks or did they go for the matinee approach when casting Peter Parker's best friend and Harvey Dent? Think about it.
