Y'all have hurricanes....we have fires. :(

It's fire season in southern Cali....and I'm seeing one right now from my house that's on the Marine Corps base we live by. So......even though this one probably won't come near us, after what we went through last year (the fire that came through my small little town hit national news last October) it's time to make sure all the laundry is always caught up and get the evacuation kit packed in the car. :cry:

 

Down here, we have floods and pissy rain. The rain and coldness that just likes to shit on your day. But, I'd rather deal with rain than fires, since rain doesn't make my city's air even worse than it already is. I would hear about the fires non-stop last year. I think these fires occur more times each year than the year before. Hopefully the fire doesn't get close enough to where you have to evacuate. That would be mega shitty.

 

We evacuated last year for a week. A lot of friends of mine lost their homes, and I was lucky enough to escape with a little bit of burnt lawn and some smoke damage inside the house....

 

I hope everything goes well for you and your homies, SoCal. That has to suck...what causes the fires? Is it a lack of humidity/rain....and are there other factors that you know of?

 

Last year, the one that went through our town got started by a power line that went down. When the Santa Ana winds are here (which is now, and there are some huge gusts), the gusts can carry the embers for quite a ways, so it starts multiple fires. The one that's going on right now got started on one of the ranges on base, so some Marine shot something that started a fire...

 

Here we go again...

...there's a new one...and it's close, but the wind is moving in the opposite direction of me. However...if I step out my front door, I can see the glow and hear the crackling. If I were at work (which is only a couple miles from my house), I'd be able to see the flames from my office. It's spooky. Probably not getting much sleep tonight, and getting ready to be able to leave at a moment's notice.

Anyone here near the one in LA? I seriously dislike fire season.

 

Porter Ranch is less than 4 miles from my front door.

In fact two fires burned between SFV and Simi. One is fairly under control because the winds have died but the other I'm not sure about and I don't smell any thing, like I did in Simi (I work there) this evening.

Fires don't bother me, why should they? Some idiot started these, I believe one from throwing a cig from a moving car. If that isn't another reason to complete BAN smoking I don't know what is.

I'm not one to take pictures of natural or man-made disasters....
