Best European City for Black Men meeting White Women

I am sad to say I do know some Africans who have said they're Americans. However, they are all under 15 and probably thought it'd be easier getting girls that way. None were Nigerian.

I've yet to meet any adults who say they're American. As Swaziking says, people are generally proud of where they're from.

Being you're in Scandanavia, how would you say the reception to us blacks are there? Can a brotha get some love in that part of the world, and would we be sweated by the guys for trying to holla at the gals?

 

I think what dj was trying to say,is that women around Europe growing up,if they do indeed start getting attracted to black guys,its most likely going to be american blacks they see on t.v.Especially since alot of the "american" music genres liked throughout europe,and worldwide,came from Black americans.
Im sure that this is not the case for all,but I too have hard about Africans abroad claming that they were Black american.

Just this morning I met a little boy down the street. I often see him at the shops and he asked about my boyfriend. He tried to put on an American accent (he was only about 10) I asked him in French (guessing he was from Senegal, which was right)- 'don't try and fool me man, I know where you are from. Be proud!'

At first he looked a little scared, then apologetic, then laughed.

Then his Ma strolled up and smacked him for being rude. He got told!

That is not an indictment of Africans, educated or not. I am just saying that you don't see Africans on TV, you generally don't listen to African music (unless its sampled into something else or is used as a base for some electronica). When you go into a club you hear - 50 Cent, he's not AFRICAN.

There a few Africans in the NFL, the NBA so yeah its possible you have seen them on TV -

My point is that in Europe, Joe Average Black Man is 9 times out of 10 African. African-Americans that aren't service men are usually employed by Multi-National firms, included Royal Dutch Shell and other oil companies. Any half way decent looking American brotha can PICK AND CHOOSE. Military guys, well beauty is the eye of the beholder let me tell ya....

There's a 90% chance of a AM wanting to drag you back to America. I'm in that group, but I would be willing to wait 10 or so years for the US economy to sort itself out....

Agreed there are Visa hunters but you just need to understand yourself. Besides, when we are not working we spend most of our time in Africa so it's not all about the US of A. Not all Africans are poor- you know about the 'emerging middle class' in some parts , right?

Nope, not unless you're really unlucky. It can happen, but I've only heard of it happening in small towns/villages. Not the larger towns/cities. It's always a good idea not to get too drunk if you're in a club in a foreign country though. Just because the more drunk you are, the more likely it is that you'll get into trouble. No matter where you are.

Regardless of country, approx 10% of Scandinavian (men and women) marry a non-westerner. Which is usually a coloured person. Another 10% marry someone from another western country (that's you). Since some of the westerners are coloured too, It should be safe to say that more than 10% of women now days are marrying a non-white. Even more will of course be open if it's just dating. So I guess you, as a black American, should have a fairly good chance of meeting someone.

And your first question: How would I say the reception to blacks are there? Generally good. You'll meet idiots here as everywhere, but people are generally OK with black people. Also, I think you'll have an easier time than African blacks, because what makes some people a bit aprehensive is the fear of the cultural differences, and with an American they're not likely to worry very much about that. If you don't go telling everyone you voted for Bush, people should be cool with you. :grin:

And now something I always tell people: if it's a serious relationship you want, believing you'll find the love of your life in a short vacation is a bit optimistic. You should rather try to find a job here and live here for a while. Get to know people, not in clubs, but by joining social groups within your field of interests (for instance if you're into dancing salsa, join a dance group).

Clubs are OK if you're only looking for ONS though... But don't take it for granted that something will happen there either. It most likely won't.

Correct. You generally don't. Because you're not in Africa...

No matter where in the world you are, people enerally pay most attention to themself, then to what's "close" to them (culturally and geographically).
In the western world, this means that people generally listen to western music.

But don't flatter yourself too much. For us Europeans, I'd say much more than half of the music we listen too is not American. It's European. We listen a lot to music in our own languages, as well as music in English (by groups who are not necessarily from England, but perform in English). Both in TV and clubs you'll find that they play a lot of European music.

OK, just have to warn you. For a Scandinavian that's usually a problem.
We're not likely to move to the US, or anywhere else for that matter. We're very well aware of the fact that we're better of here. I know far more Americans who have move over here, than Scandinavians who have moved to US (on a permanent basis, I'm not counting people who go to study for just 1 or 2 years).

A friend of mine, a (white) American man who live here, even told me he used this to his advantage when he wanted to dump girlfriends. He would tell them he was seriously considering moving back to US, and every time the girl would dump him.:mrgreen:

First of all, if there's something people hate, it's Americans who come telling us English is better because that's what they speak, and brag about how good everything American is. Such statements are not going to get you a chick from Bergen. (I've lived there on and of for a total of 6 years btw).

Anyway:
For Norwegian, Danish and Swedish, the languages are so closely related that if you learn one, you'll easily understand the other ones. For instance

House=
hus (in Norwegian)
hus (in Danish)
hus (in Swedish)

Woman =
Dame (in Norwegian)
Dame (in Danish)
Dam (in Swedish)

So, you'll get 3 in one, if you ever do decide to start learning one of the Scandinavian languages.:smt037

yeah definitely london best place , Bar Rumba just off leicester square , Mean Time in greenwich, loads of places the list goes on quite a few great places in kent aswell that black people from london travel to cus there good some off the places look a bit cheesy but its the atmosphere thats pretty cool.

Another thing about Scandinavia is that the women have a really good choice in men there - when you go to a club, for instance, in Oslo you'll see a multitude of what seem like really good, quality men, all types - the local, Western, Eastern European migrants, brothers (mostly African I guess). The Scandinavian women have a very high self esteem and they are not "easy" at all.

The American brothers would stand a better chance, as they are the A-list of bm. They speak perfect English and they come from a modern culture that respects individualism. Yea, many African men in Europe are westernised (and yes they try to emulate the Americans) but it's still a different culture (like, who knows how "traditional/modern" they really are and what about their families). Women are very highly valued in Scandinavia and most of them will never put up with someone classifying/perceiving them as "the second sex".

Most Scandinavians speak perfect English, HOWEVER, if you wanna live there they will expect you to respect their languages. When I go to Norway, for instance, I have to speak Norwegian most of the time, because I don't wanna stand out by speaking English (several times when I spoke English to the ppl in the street they replied in Norwegian).

The best cities for IR dating could be London, Stockholm, Amsterdam.
In countries like France and Spain there's a lot of brothers, but I have no idea what the IR dating scene is like over there.

I agree with you that it's probably easier for an American BM, but I disagree with the A-list thing. It's got nothing to do with a ranking system, women just tend to be more cautious about Africans because they know there's a huge cultural gap to overcome. In many cases it might be easier for some to relax with Americans because the cultures have more in common. Also, women will assume they're not being hit on for a visa, which is something many worry about when it comes to an African (or Asian or south-American)

I also disagree about the statement that many Africans in Europe try to emulate the Americans. A few do, and they are mostly quite young.The big majority is proud of their heritage.

BTW: those people who have refused to speak English to you, please tell me they were really old??? Or that it has been in some very small towns with no foreigners what so ever, so that the people there might not speak English very well....:smt087 Otherwise it's just embarrassing...

Scandinavian women are definitely not easy, but they are the most liberated women in the world, so if they want something they go out and take it and not worry about being labeled. Maybe the "being easy" stereotype comes from the "blonde porno centerfolds" or smth. And Canaries and Greece – you mean the female sex tourism? That's a whole different phenomena.

And btw, I don't think the men on these boards are necessarily looking for smth "easy", it's more like they wanna see how women of various European nationalities differ in their willingness/reluctance to date bm. And Scandinavian women do stand out here, it seems.. maybe it's just an image they get from some prominent couples or maybe it's because of the Swedish women or the egalitarian mindset, but who knows. Maybe the rate of Scandinavian women dating bm is not all that different from German, French, Italian, and it certainly shouldn't be higher than the British women.

Well, of course, you happen to be with somebody not because they belong to some sort of a category, since it's a personal attraction and you deal with the person individually, not the group. I'm not putting African men down, and the reason I said Americans were A-list is exactly because of what you're saying – the culture is much more similar. Of course, you can always learn about the other culture, but that just adds complexity to it (and bm/ww relationships can already be complex because of other reasons).

Ok, I haven't dealt with this so I can't speak, but I've noticed some of this (not to a large extent but in some cases). This actually brings up an interesting question on how the blacks in Europe identify themselves.

Ronja, like I said, most Scandinavians speak perfect English, but I don't mind them sticking to their own languages in order to preserve them (Scandinavia is already very Americanised). It's rare that it happens but sometimes they reply in Norwegian, however it's in English most of the time. But just by those few instances I could tell that they are protective of their language which is absolutely normal. And no, those were regular ppl, not older folks in a village. It was in the city, but I guess that's just how they react to globalisation.
