Anyone here listen to him? I think he's arguably the best lyricist since tupac. Also he gets bonus points for sending his unique style and anti "cool" stance.

For lyrics: Saul Williams The Rise and Inevitable Liberation of Niggy Tardust Fantastic fucking album.

    His myspace: http://www.myspace.com/saulwilliams

Industrial Rap isn't for everyone, though, sadly.

As for Lupe, I've not really listened to him yet, but I do know he's hot. haha.

Naw, but I respect the dude though. Except for his little Tribe tribute fuck up at the hip-Hop Honors last years, but dude still has my respect as far a hip-hop. I never hear about him putting out wack bullshit.

I started a thread a long time ago, I wish I could find it, where I said that Lupe is the new Tupac, and I was told - come on girl, he's good and all but not every good new rapper the next Tupac!

I don't want to get into deatals and an arguement n' shit, but I think Pac is overrated. Bot saying he wasn't one of the greatest and influential, but I wouldn't call him the GOAT, lyrically, even though Pac could get hella lyrical.

I hate saying who my GOAT is, because at the end of the day, it's all opinion. But my GOAT is either Rakim, or Big L. I listen to L a lot more than Rakim though. He's my second/third favorite rapper/MC(he switches second and third with Kool Mo Dee, depending on what era of hip-hop I'm on at the moment).

    Favorites:

    1.Eazy-E(But not GOAT, obviously)
    2.Big L/Kool Mo Dee
    3.Kool Mo Dee/Big L

Big L is a fucking beast. And I'm not saying like those lil wayne dick riders who hear "I'm fresher than a mufucka" and think that's the hardest and most clever line somebody has spit since 197-fuckin'-4. That dude was vicious, just check his 7 minute freestyle with Jay-Z. Lyrically, I think he beats Pac, straight up. Hella shitty that he got killed over some bullshit.

I actually think L might have said that before.:p

"I ran up on this nigga named Mack, in a black Ack, and put the gat to his cap, click clack, sorry Jack, but get up outta that".

"I'm far from broke, got enough bread. And made hoes, ask Beavis, I get nothin' Butthead(But head:D)"

"I'm not a sweet stud, I'm a street thug That's quick to beat a nigga like a cheap rug, till he leak blood"

"You got fucked upstate, you cupcake How many dicks can your butt take? I ran through every bitch in my path I was fuckin' chicks in the ass when I was six-and-a-half Yo, I'm a take you out your misery And after this, nigga, put you in the social study book 'cause you're history"

Yeah, you can cover gangsta rap subjects and be lyrical.

    RIP Lamont Coleman.:(

Lupe is iight. He is good because he fills a void and i would stop it at. As far as "Really really good" rappers I would put all of my coins on WALE. You dont him yet but he has made a LOT of noise over the past few years. Folks in DC know about him.

Please, google "Mixtape about Nothing" and "100 miles and running"

they are both FREE mixtapes. this guy is totally nuts and half of his tracks are produced by Mark Ronson, who is the guy who did Amy Winehouse's lp. After that my other favorite is MF DOOM. possible the GOAT. But the thing is that most folks dont "Get it" the first time around, you have to hear a few things before you realize that he's like the David Foster Wallace (rip) of rapping. He really does flip the english language on it's head.

Lupe Fiasco is not the next Tupac.

Nowhere near. Tupac's words connected with waaaaay more people and they were much more precise.

Lupe is very abstract. Its a completely different style and not many people connect with his style and wordplay.

Not that I don't like Lupe its just the facts, and no, you don't have to be a thug to connect with mass audience. Solja boy is a perfect example.

Its all about wordplay that the mass understands. Sometimes being too abstract and complex isnt effective at all.

Which inevitably leaves a smaller audience to enjoy your artistic abilities.

Lupe is in the top 20. Not top 10. There's so many rappers that have done except they remain relevant today because they're "old-school" rappers now.

Overall, yeah, the guy is talented but like Dj4money said, few to none can even be mentioned in the same breath as Tupac. Pac's gift is a rare one that will not be seen anytime soon if at all.

Well first of all Rap music is taken way too seriously. I dont really consider making vulgarity rhyme any real consummate musical talent, producers excluded. As a whole it used to be alot better before gangster rap from formal definition of consummate musical talent IMO.That being said this judgement doesnt count for all rappers hip/hop artist out today just the vast majority.

As far as Lupe Fiasco goes I dont know if I would consider him the "greatest since Pac" since I definately wouldnt even consider Pac the clear cut greatest but Lupe's music is far better than the majority of rappers from a consummate standpoint.

Lupe I would actually say he is an"artist" or "talented" partially becuase first he is actually unique (that chops the vast majority of hip hop "artist" off right there) He actually has a somewhat postive and meaningful message in his music and he is lyrically artful while doing it. Also he is alot more knowledgable (as far as things outside of the ghetto go) than the vast majority of rappers thus giving him a variety of subjects he raps about. Basically his songs arent all about bitches, acting stupid and the ghetto.

Lupe Fiasco is considered as a top 20 rapper but the reason he isnt recognized higher from a popularity standpoint is because what alot of peole are looking for in rap (vulgarity, thug behavior, club bangers, what the hood and MTV tells them is cool) he just doesnt offer as much. but he gets major points in my book.

I agree with this. The only main difference I noticed in Tupac and other rap is that he spoke on more touchy emotional aspects of the ghetto. Brandas got a baby, Changes, Dear mama.

It seems like he actually put a little thought behind his music and aspects about the ghetto but none the less still ghetto mentality and nothing revolutionary in my opinion.

You have to remember alot of people like Pac for three reasons.

    1. He was a pioneer of West coast rap

    2. Hes dead

    3. Others said it was cool to like him and think he was the best.

In my opinion he was just another thug that was a little clearer at getting his message across and touching on some of the more emotional aspects of the ghetto.

No offense to anyone that genuinely thinks Pac was the best rapper or this Revolutionary human being as I realize alot of people believe this. Everyone has an opinion.

Fuck what anybody says, Big L gets mentioned in the same sentence as Pac to me. L had some of the best punchlines as well.

Those (the 3 reasons) aren't why I like Tupac. I loved his depth and how multifaceted he was. I don't think he was "just another thug" while I don't argue his being a thug. I feel there was a hell of a lot more to him than that. That's what I appreciated about him. I thought he was pretty deep and spiritual and full of passion. You could hear his emotion in his words. Feel his convictions. Even if he wasn't revolutionary, I do feel he was a very special, unique individual. That's this one's opinion. :D
