I'm still waiting to see if they'll have Dixon hooking up with the same regularity as Brandon or Dylan, and with the hot blondes, redheads and brunettes, etc.

I'm glad they have a black kid playing Lacrosse for once, instead of setting him up as a basketball or football player..

..but is he going to end up sexually frustrated as one of the few black guys in a 99% white school where most of the girls are probably too scared/conservative to 'go there'? Everybody's "buddy" but never getting a girlfriend?

already i've seen message boards where posters claim to be 'bored' with Dixon or "he does nothing for me"..

which illustrates my concern--- is that for a show like this, because he's not a Jonas-Brothers posterboy, 'middle america' viewers won't be supportive, thus the producers will feel they've been backed into a corner with this character, so he'll eventually be killed off (or commit murder; he was a foster kid, right?), thus pushing his exit from the show, and confirming the cliche' that black main characters never last on these prime time soaps.. ah well... the brothers get no love..

No matter what, even if they decide to remove him from the show, at least they gave it a shot.

For that, I give them props for trying.

WTF??? Y'all suggesting he's gonna get kicked to the curb cause of some dumb, backassward cwackas on a forum. What needs to happen...is his character should be steppin' to those snowflakes -- and smashin' em hard!

I won't give TPTB credit for anything if the Dixon character remains so third-rate. He is being written in such a tentative and dull way (so far) that 90% of the blame for the lack of intrigue in the character falls on the writers. Folks, these types of comments from message boards are very common when it comes to black characters on predominantly white shows. Fans are routinely either ignoring the black characters in their comments and dismissing them. When they dismiss them they almost always tend to state that the characters are uninteresting. No surprise there. The reason for the black characters being uninteresting to mainstream viewers is typically for two primary reasons :

1)the characters are black and non-blacks often devalue black characters more than they do white characters. This is especially true of white fans who, for the most part, are so used to seeing themselves being front and center of all interesting plots and stories that they can't make that leap and place that same interest on a non-white character, especially a black male character.

2)The writers don't give them much to do. One motto that I have gone by for years is that there isn't any such thing as a boring or uninteresting character, just lazy and unimaginative writers. Its the writers' job to make EVERY character fascinating because it improves the overall story/show. But think about all the black characters that have been on predominantly white shows for the last 20 or so years. Now ask yourself do these characters get great storylines, are major arcs ever revolving around them, do they get an active, interesting, sex love-life, are they the main focus of a show, do they major character arcs and are they as well fleshed out as the white characters, do they get the fun and glamorous stuff to do on a show, etc. If the answer to that is "mostly no" as it is with me then that's the writers intentionally or unintentionally sabotaging the characters' appeal. Granted, as the naysayers would point out, there are white characters who are also underused and kept in an uninteresting and more subordinate roles. And this is true. But what they never mention is that 99% of all the lead characters and characters who get the major storylines are white as well. So at least white characters get that opportunity to be THE focus. Black characters rarely get such generous treatment. And because they don't when their characters end up dragging and looking one dimensional, the feedback comes in and TPTB can then justify getting rid of the character because "it just isn't working". "Heroes" is a prime example of this.

By the way I'm referring almost strictly to hour dramas and hour-long programs. I can't think of hardly any examples in which black characters were give preferred treatment on such shows except when they were the actual leads (and almost all of those type of shows were cancelled quickly). Dixon, based upon what I saw, is an obvious token. No way a white guy in that role would spend the two hours getting so little to do and having basically no interaction with any young female other than his sister.

Don't mind the rude comments. They're typical one-liner offenses as usual.

I agree. There will be. The CW is notorious for having them somewhere along the lines.

So Dixon's new love interest is 'Silver', played by Jessica Stroup.

We'll see how long this one lasts. :D

the ep I saw this week had Dixon and Silver kissing at the end, and Dixon wishing he still had a 4-year old condom (!!)

    I saw that too!

    Hilarious!

This relationship with him and Silver is moving along very well.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.
