Since Netflix is splitting up the season it would make sense if we got 10 episodes overrall. Wishful thinking U say?!?
I'm looking forward to watching this. It's in my queue after I finish Money Heist. I'm still geeking out over Book Of Boba Fett, though.
George R.R. Martin's superhero epic Wild Cards revived by Marvel Comics The epic superhero universe Wild Cards, originally created by George R.R. Martin and Melinda M. Snodgrass, is being revived as a new series from Marvel Comics. "As my fans may already know, the Wild Cards World holds a special place in my heart, so to have the privilege of announcing that an industry titan like Marvel is going to produce the narrative from the beginning as a comic book brings me no end of joy," Martin says in the announcement. And well, both Wild Cards and Martin have a long history with Marvel Comics (more on that in a bit). Wild Cards is a superhero universe conceived by Martin and Snodgrass that played out as a series of prose novels and short stories by the duo, along with other contributors such as Roger Zelazny and Harold Waldrop. The overall conceit is that an alien virus known as 'Wild Card' has infiltrated Earth society, and those that are affected by it are dealt, seemingly, at random, different abilities that fall into three classes: 'Joker' as in physical mutations; 'Ace' as in straight-up superpowers; or 'Black Queen' which means they'll suddenly die from the virus. Writer Paul Cornell and artist Mike Hawthorne will be adapting the early days of the Wild Cards prose stories into a cohesive limited series titled Wild Cards: The Drawing of Cards. "Wild Cards is still a unique take on superheroes, a creation story that's influenced everything since, but still maintains its power," Cornell says in the announcement. "It's an honor and a pleasure to bring all these wonderful stories to their natural home at Marvel, and I hope to give George, Melinda, and the rest of the Wild Cards Collective the credit they deserve for making the superhero myth new again. Plus: just look at that art!" In 1990, Marvel published a four-issue Wild Cards series under its now-defunct Epic Comics imprint, with stories by Snodgrass and others, with art by Barry Kitson, Butch Guice, and Marshall Rogers to name a few. A second series, subtitled The Hard Call, was published in 2008 by Dabel Brothers Productions. The Wild Cards prose line has been revived several times, with everyone from Chris Claremont to Saladin Ahmed writing prose stories for it. Cornell even wrote three prose stories for the Wild Cards universe, before this comic adaptation. Martin is known to be one of the earliest major Marvel Comics fans, with fan letters of his appearing in the letter columns of as far back as 1963's Fantastic Four #20. Wild Cards: The Drawing of Cards #1 (of 4) goes on sale this June. Look for Marvel's full June 2022 solicitations in mid-March.
DC and Marvel team to reprint 7000 copies of JLA/Avengers to honor George Pérez The legendary crossover limited series JLA/Avengers is finally being reprinted after years of unavailability. There's just one catch, though; the new edition, released through the Hero Initiative in cooperation with DC and Marvel Comics to honor its artist George Pérez, will be limited to 7,000 copies. In a February 16 announcement provided to the press by DC, the Hero Initiative states that the new printing is taking place specifically to honor "one of George Pérez's seminal bodies of work and his long-time support of [Hero Initiative]." Pérez recently shared that he was diagnosed with terminal cancer with the comic book community and subsequently announced his plans to live out his remaining days celebrating comic books with his friends, co-creators, and fans. Pérez is a founding member of the Hero Initiative, and a familiar face at fundraising events for the organization, at one time its single biggest fundraiser. The Hero Initiative is a charity dedicated to helping comic book creators in medical or financial need; more information can be found at www.heroinitiative.org. "The Hero Initiative is one of my greatest sources of pride," Pérez recently told Newsarama following the announcement of his diagnosis and his retirement from the charity's board. "I am stepping down with absolutely the greatest feeling of accomplishment. We've helped so many of my peers, and Hero Initiative has helped me. I'm grateful to them, and it's a nice legacy to have." In addition to his work with the charity, Pérez is also the most definitive superhero artist of all time and JLA/Avengers remains the crowning achievement in his career of crowning achievements. The new collected edition of JLA/Avengers will be distributed through Diamond Comic Distributors and available in participating comic shops sometime in March. The new volume will reprint all four issues of the original limited series in a softcover format with an additional 60 pages of material, including reprinted introductions from the late Stan Lee (co-creator of the Avengers) and Julius Schwarz (the DC editor-in-chief during the creation of the Justice League), as well as a new afterword from JLA/Avengers writer Kurt Busiek. "I'm absolutely thrilled, of course — that Marvel and DC were able to come together to bring the book out again, that we're able to honor George like this, and that we're doing it in a way that benefits the Hero Initiative, which has been so helpful to creators in need, and which George has been such a strong supporter of for years," Busiek tells Newsarama." "I can't wait to see the actual book." In many ways, 2003-04's JLA/Avengers represents the culmination of a story that took almost 30 years to tell. Back in the late '70s, when he was working on both Marvel's Avengers and DC's Justice League, Pérez begin illustrating a crossover between the two super-teams - the biggest joint story Marvel and DC had ever attempted. Unfortunately, due to the vagaries of big market publishing, the project was never published and the near-miss gained near-legendary status. But Marvel and DC did find some occasions to have individual characters meet in smaller crossovers. 1996's Marvel Vs. DC seemed to fulfill some of the promise of the planned JLA/Avengers crossover, but it took several more years for the real deal version to come together with Pérez and Kurt Busiek, his longtime creative partner on Avengers, taking the reins. The result was a four-issue tour de force around both the Marvel and DC Universes, roping in dozens of heroes, villains, and other classic concepts for a story that follows the classic 'heroes meet and fight over a misunderstanding before teaming up to take on the bad guy" formula, but in a way that hits all the right notes for fans of both franchises who waited decades to see the teams come together. Its long journey still makes JLA/Avengers one of the most unlikely comic book crossovers ever. JLA/Avengers also marked the last real crossover between Marvel and DC, and the collection has been out of print for some years - at least, until this announcement. But with only 7,000 copies up for sale through Diamond Comic Distributors, fans will need to be early birds to snag this particularly juicy worm. The announcement did not indicate the new edition will be made available on digital platforms. While limited in quantity, that it's being newly reprinted in any quantity in a joint effort by Marvel and DC (any interaction between the publishers is rare these days) is a testament to Pérez's stature and standing in the industry and community. Sometimes relationships are rekindled by extraordinary circumstances and small efforts and it'll be interesting to watch if JLA/Avengers is a one-time exception to honor a community legend or a new beginning for the onetime rivals-sometimes partners.
"The Last Kingdom" season 5 trailer leaked a couple weeks: I said "leaked" because for some reason Netflix still hasn't officially released the trailer on their official YouTube channel. It's been 3rd party YouTube channels that leaked it & eventually the official TLK channel put it out.
Oh lord, this is the one franchise I've been clamoring for to get a TV adaptation. It's so much more interesting than the Boys and Watchmen (imo). Fortunato deserves a live actor, damn it. The books are so fun and that universe, ugh. It's dark, gritty, sexual, comedic...I need HBO to pick this up, ASAP.
At the very least Wildcards should have been adapted for TV over Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice & Fire simply due to having 20 plus novels worth of stories spanning multiple decades & a variety of interesting characters to play with.
I mean GoT started production before Super Heroes took off. The first Avengers movie didn't come out until after GoT S1. The proof of concept for GoT was more LOTR. So it makes sense they are getting around to more superhero fare now. But yes Wild Cards would be very good on HBO Max.
At the time they started Game of Thrones it was expected that Martin would have finished the last two books to complete the series before they had to worry about ending the TV series, so yeah that worked in its favor as far as it being greenlit for production. Lesson from all that is never adapt any book series for movies or TV unless it already has a definitive end either already published or soon to be published.
'Blade': Aaron Pierre Cast in Mystery Role In MCU Reboot It has just been announced that Krypton and The Underground Railroad's Aaron Pierre has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' upcoming Blade reboot in an undisclosed role. It has already been announced that two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali will be playing the title character. Frequent Spike Lee collaborator Delroy Lindo will also appear in the film in a currently unknown role. Bassam Tariq will direct from a script by Stacy Osei-Kuffour. Tariq directed 2020's festival darling Mogul Mowgli while Osei-Kuffour has served as a story editor on HBO's Watchmen and Prime Video's Hunters. Marvel has declined to comment on the new casting development. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is serving as the film's producer. The new Blade adaptation has been in development since 2019 when it was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con. This will be the first Blade film since 2004's Blade: Trinity and to not feature Wesley Snipes as the titular character. On top of his starring roles on the two previously mentioned TV series', Pierre has appeared in M. Night Shyamalan's Old as rapper Mid-Sized Sedan. Pierre was just tapped by Disney to voice Mufasa in Barry Jenkins' upcoming prequel to The Lion King, and will also appear in the upcoming films Brother, Foe, and Rebel Ridge. Ali, who won the Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his performances in Moonlight and Green Book, just starred in Apple TV+'s Swan Song, and will next be seen in the miniseries The Plot as well as the film Leave the World Behind. Lindo, who is perhaps best known for Get Shorty and Da 5 Bloods, will next make appearances in the upcoming shows Anansi Boys and Harlem's Kitchen. The character of Blade originated as a supporting character in the comic book Tomb of Dracula, and quickly became a cult phenomenon. The character catapulted its popularity when the first Blade movie was released in 1996, which took home $131.2 million against a $45 million budget. The original film's two sequels were also successful at the box office. The new Blade film is still currently in the development phase, and all that is currently known about the film's plot is that it will take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
@Ra He has a look that screams vampire. Hannibal King or a Deacon Frost maybe....Maybe Blade has a kid in this version? I mean Ali is great actor but kinda old for a blade role.
Could be anyone since Blade doesn't have a fully fleshed out history in the comics besides Deacon Frost & run ins with Dracula. Depending on what route the MCU wants to go with their version of vampires ( supernatural creatures or some mutant strain of humans) he could be a version of Deacon Frost that is his actual father or maybe Dracula himself. Same with Delroy Lindo, he could be the MCU version of Whistler or Quincy Harker from the Marvel Tomb of Dracula stories. We'll see though.
