...and turn them into what, collectives? State-owned businesses? It’s been tried and tested before, I kindly refer to history books Anyway, I wouldn’t bother myself about that, it’s never gonna happen in the US.
Let me add to the list 12 months parental leave, paid at 60% of last salary. Parents may share their leave as they please. My policy suggestion for you
LOL. That's what I keep telling the Bernie-bots. They are voting for him in vain, he won't win. Ask them, they don't know what they want to do with it, they just hate capitalism and that's about the extent of their thoughts about it.
Apparently those are not Military men. Veterans like me and MKM, know what it is to sacrifice sleep. When there is a mission it has to get done!
The woman gets minimal leave. She is back to work asap with a baby sitter watching the baby. The man gets no time off at all.
People here define their existence by the job that they have. It's silly but, it's their problem. I choose to think differently.
Is the babysitter so cheap it’s worth working plus paying a full-time nanny? If you did that here you have to have an extremely high-level job for it to make sense financially (in Switzerland I mean. In Germany there’s 1+ year paid parental leave).
Baby sitters are not cheap. Most companies just don't allow them time off like that. Why should they anyway if everyone here defines their existence by their job? It's the consequences of having that type of mindset.
I think it’d derail the thread too far to go into the details but I don’t find it a good thing. Any woman who defines herself only by her job doesn’t really need a child in the first place. Having a child means you accept that motherhood defines you to some extent and society should respect that because none of us would be in this world if our mothers didn’t pay the price for it.
I agree but this is America lol. Don King had it right a long time ago. There are my things you can add to the only in America list. It's part of what I was saying before about a mindset. Any woman I settle down with can't have the same mindset as the general public.
It's the jacked up American culture that defines people by their jobs, and it expects its people to do the same. We're expected to be married to our jobs and to put it before everything else. Society here has no respect for motherhood, fatherhood, or family (or people in general) when it boils right down to it. Time off to care for your baby and/or to stay at home to raise your children is a luxury in this country, which means most people can't afford it. And the good old catch 22 is child care is also hard to afford. Regardless of what is best or what is needed for you, if it's not what the company wants, they'll get rid of and replace you without hesitation. A lot of places that do offer maternity leave don't do it as paid time off either. Going back to work as soon as we're possibly able is a matter of necessity; we can't afford to miss too much work and definitely can't afford to lose our jobs. It sucks, but that's the way it is here.
That’s unfortunate but I wonder: Is it REALLY a matter of not being ABLE to live on one income? Or is it more a matter of women not wanting to give up their jobs (losing them as there’s no other option) because society doesn’t respect the concept of staying home to take care of kids and they don’t want to be old-fashioned?
Ok lets talk economic costs. Its a simple money multiplier. Creating an avenue where people can participate in the economy actually helps the economy. So the upfront cost of education which we are perfectly ok subsidizing for 12 years why not make it 16? Ill even make it better for you those who are not in STEM are required to pay 10 percent of the tuition fees that way you know graduates are going into solid job growth areas. Honestly what is the alternative keep this system that's fundamentally flawed in place. You want to talk about economic impediment? How does it help growth when economic activity is stalled in our youth because they are stuck paying student loans. That's money they could use to buy homes cars other consumer goods that keep the economy going
Based on what why won't he win? What metric are you using because polling says otherwise. If you think he won't get his policies done that's another conversation.
