Statement by the D.A.
“After reviewing all of the facts & circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollet’s volunteer service in the community & agreement to forfeit his bond.. we believe this outcome is a just disposition & appropriate resolution to this case.” -- Cook Co Attorney

And they sealed the file.

So no community work but "credit for past volunteer work." LOL.

 

At the end of the day all he did was lie to the cops, so community service sounds about right.

 

He must have no record of any kind. Jussie got a sweet plea deal.

 

He didn't even have to do that...
The D.A in his statement gave him "character credit for past volunteer work."

Did the FBI get involved? Because lying to the FBI should garner a different outcome, right? At the very least, 12 days in jail...

Not to mention the DA is a family friend who tried to get it to her contacts in Washington to under-rug it..

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that Jussie Smollett being a gay celeb who's well-connected to local & national democratic politicians is what helped him get these charges dropped. A regular BM would not be able to get off like this, even if he had money. It also doesn't help they made a spectacle by overcharging him with 16 felonies. If they were only gonna punish him with misdemeanors and him serving 1-year jailtime and/or probation, he would've been found guilty.

 

Seems to be a war on social media about this. MAGA folks/Trump supporters/conservatives are outraged about Jussie getting off & the term "Black Privilege" is being thrown around. My previous post in this thread explains why that's bullshit

Actor Does Not Deserve Honor After Arrest For Hate Crimes Hoax

Washington, D.C. – After Jussie Smollett’s indictment on felony charges for lying to law enforcement about an alleged hate crime, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are asking the NAACP to rescind Smollett’s nomination for an upcoming Image Award.

“Everyone has a reason to be disappointed with Jussie Smollett right now, and these accumulated reasons justify the NAACP taking swift and appropriate action to remove him from consideration for its Image Award,” said Project 21 Co-Chairman Council Nedd II. “Smollett is charged with perpetrating a hate crime hoax that wasted valuable police resources and stoked racial tensions nationwide. It hurt our nation’s ability to heal its racial wounds and made the NAACP’s civil rights goals harder to achieve. The NAACP needs to make it clear that his behavior is not OK by removing him from contention for an Image Award.”

Smollett was nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.” Smollett’s nomination was announced before the actor was charged in the hoax, and Project 21 members say rescinding it now would allow the NAACP to preserve the intent of the Image Awards to honor “individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors.” The NAACP Image Awards are scheduled to be held on March 30 in Hollywood.
