Why did you quote me and then paraphrase a single sentence and somehow get "it's because he's white". The sentence being,

    "
    meowkittenmeow said: ?
    And Timberlake isn't R&B, it's pop. "

How you came to that conclusion off of that small sentence is beyond me. That's just reaching.

Timberlake is pop, and was heavily influenced by THE KING OF POP. Not because he is white. As far as Robin Thicke goes, I would say it's R&B. But, timberlake is most definately pop. And, quite frankly I feel the same about Chris Brown.

Because your line about timberlake not being R&B trumps everything you had to say. when he was with nsyc .....that was pop ........when he went solo ....that's R&B .
THE only reason people would say that he is not r&b is cause he is white ....the only reason ....there's no other reason ...the guy had almost his whole album produced by timberland ....rappers all in there ,he's beat boxing and it's pop to some people out there.I bet his white fanbase think it's pop as well.

Ummm... what the hell are you talking about? If it simply had to do with him being white I wouldn't have said that robin thicke is R&B (and quite frankly so is John B and many others). I... just... don't understand how you took a six word sentence where I gave my opinion that timberlake is pop and somehow create some conspiracy theory that it's because he is white. I get that he got Timbaland to produce his stuff, and I own some timberlake albums, but timbaland also produced nelly furtado's pop album as well as others. I don't know if you are a huge timberlake fan or you just like reaching on this particular subject, but, I'm just going to go ahead and leave you to it.

I'm an old man and remember when Madonna "Holiday" 12-inch first came out. There was no photo on the cover. Everybody I knew thought she was black. This was before MTV came to the inner city

I'mo be the tiebreaker & agree that Timberlake is r&b, sorry. Even though he charts on the pop charts. Same with Robin Thicke

I saw an interview with Stephanie Mills (look her up if you don't know) and she said that people still want r&b...just not from black people. She specifically named Adele at the time of the interview

So than what do you think about black artists like The Weeknd, Chris Brown, Usher, Rihanna, Beyonce, Ciara, & etc?

Their music is labeled R&B/Pop just like Justin Timberlake & Ariana Grande. But since they're black, nobody hesitates to label them R&B or Urban music.

He would have definitely been targeted for Janet's boob.

I haven't heard his name since. He fell fast. Blurred Lines was huge. A couple years later, dude was done it seems even though he has a few albums out.

I find them all to be more pop. But, that’s me and my opinion. I don’t listen to those artists, I have heard of their stuff, but I wouldn’t purchase it.

I get it, you and the other guy are huge Timberlake fans and feel that there is some conspiracy keeping them from maintaining a label that you want them to have. I just don’t agree.

I do find it interesting how this thread evolved from a “white women R&B” thread to “black people aren’t giving Timberlake the label that I want him to have” thread. As I said with the other guy, we have differing opinions, some theories are a bit of a reach, but I will leave you to it.

I am aware of what you are talking about. But, the charts say pop, and I also feel it is pop. But, you are welcome to your own opinion on the matter. Thanks for not flipping out and assuming it’s because he’s white. Interestingly enough the only album I don’t own is that new man in the woods album. I had the other ones. People really like to reach sometimes.

I’d also like to add that I feel that usher started out as R&B and transitioned to pop. As far as the others, I don’t generally listen to them but they are all pop.

ESSENCE: The media often tells Black women that they’re better off dating White guys. What’s your response to that?

THICKE: I think that’s ridiculous. There are so many good Black men out there that are hardworking, decent, and handsome, you know? To start that rumor is as bad as starting any other negative rumor. There are great Black men out there. There are only a few good White men — trust me. (Laughs) Good luck finding a good White man who understands your journey. I only have three White friends. I’ve got 20 Black male friends, who are all good men who take good care of their wives, and good care of their children. I know amazing Black men. Maybe the women have to take better care of their men. Maybe you’re being too stubborn. Maybe you’re not saying you’re sorry. You have to take good care of him, too. You have to give love to get love.

Homeboy's sales started dwindling after that lol j/k

Didn't know about this. I liked some of his earlier stuff (2008 and earlier). And I agree, for some of the misandric types, this is a huge no no for him to do. But, I commend him for putting a positive light in our direction.

I could ask you the same thing thing about your standards. Not everybody has the same standard for makes an r&b artists or even a r&b song. The r&b market is assumed to be made up of urban (black) radio stations, black record buyers and the black American population in general. So why did those songs I listed were top ten hits among black people? For some reason these songs struck a chord among that market. As much as some people think that artists like Adele, Joss Stone, Ariana Grande and Amy Winehouse are r&b artists none of their songs ever reached the r&b top ten. So my general attitude when it comes to what tastes people have in music is well that's you.

I get what your saying but that fact that certain race buy a product isnt what classifies a genre. Also, its non blacks making up the majority of these fanbases and purchases of black music. Black people aren't the ones keeping these artists pockets fat. Like a Virgin can be argued. Looking the songs up, hollaback girl chatted on the hip hop/rnb charts and so did fancy, so they weren't a strictly rnb category. Snoops Doggystyle hit number 1 on the same charts and it's obvious that record is not an rnb record in any way.
