Beyonce's father Mathew Knowles was interviewed by Ebony magazine
    Do y'all agree?

    He's 100% right
Lupita is the dopest dark skin chick out and she gets absolutely no burn as a leading lady. Why?

  3. I don't agree. The talent, beauty and success of lauryn Hill and the late Whitney Houston dispel the notion that light skin-equals-an-automatic pass to success. Bu I do believe "colorism" is an issue regardless.

Real talk, I've never been attracted to Lupita & don't know why she is considered fine AT ALL.

I can go outside & see better looking darker skin BW. I used to read urban magazines that were targeted to BM (i.e. King Magazine, Smooth Magazine, & etc.) when I was a teenager in 2000's. All the darker skin big booty models they had in those magazine are badder to me than Lupita. All the darker skin black women in the "Booty Talk" series/West Coast Productions/& other popular black porn I used to watch in the 2000's are badder than Lupita. Instagram is filled with darker skin IG models that are badder than Lupita. I can keeping going on, but y'all get the point. So WTF is Lupita always held-up as some example of a fine darkskin BW when she clearly is not?

She fits the European standard of beauty with her tall and slender figure. Her face is euro centric enough too. I think she is a very cute woman btw. Not ugly. The problem as I see it, is that we are force fed her as what a gorgeous black woman is supposed to look like, (as we are force fed how a beautiful white woman should look like, but that is not what we are talking about now), and I oppose to being force fed.

I think Lupita is a cute woman. I believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Looking at her face there is actually nothing wrong with it to say ugly or unattractive imo.
But the media plays politics, it is VERY clear by Lupita being stranded in the supporting roles and not the white man's love interest, that Hollywood loves the lightskinned and mixed race bw. I spoke on this before on quadroon balls back in the day that used light skinned and mixed race black women in these social events designed to encourage mixed-race women to form liaisons with wealthy white men through a system of concubinage known as plaçage. Basically a whorehouse for racist white men's needs.

This is one example that you see playing out in how Hollywood is ran by white supremacist catered to their desires and needs.

No one said dark skin women can't be successful its just far easier if you're light skin. Please keep up

LOL. To each his own, but I think Lupita is very attractive. There just aren't that many leading roles for BW in Hollywood anyway, no matter how fine she might be.

As for Beyonce, colorism plays a slight part for a young female artist on the come up, but talent in music is what's most important ultimately IMO.
No dude I know is crushing over Missy Elliot, but that hasn't changed her 30 million album sales.

There are dozens of pretty light bright females in the recording industry who just can't get over, because most of them don't have the talent.

I think Lupita is a beautiful woman. I don't think she fits the parameters of what Hollyweird wants for most leading roles.

I caught the short talk with Knowles on TMZ (think it was yesterday) and he's about to release a book about it all. Might be interesting.

Considering the site we're on its not surprising some simply can't see the beauty in dark skin. Shame but not surprising. Like racism colorism is deeply baked into our psyches

I read the thread. Did anybody here flat out say dark skin was ugly? Brotherman just did not prefer Lupita, but said others were more attractive to him

I think Bria Myles is a fucking stallion. If more dark chicks looked like her, you wouldn't be hearing all this whining about colorism. A lot of times it isn't color, it's that you're plain fucking busted.

I personally think Lupita is attractive, and is Hollywood's go-to darker woman right now. Her non-American background makes her exotic ie not your average neck-rolling American hood chick. She doesn't get lead roles because she's not a lead, point blank. Octavia Butler doesn't get lead roles either and she's got an Oscar.

Being light-skinned hasn't worked for many female artists including Solange. She isn't really shifting units. Also see: Mya and the old Pussycat Dolls lead singer whose solo record got shelved (old school, I know). Whole bunch of chicks from the 2000s didn't make it, of various skin tones. Ashanti? Amerie? Tweet? Remember them? Other than the holy trinity of Beyonce, Rihanna and Cardi B, nobody really gets any hype that I know of. There can only be so many divas at one time on the airwaves/pop culture

Missy is dark and has been around for 20 years. She was fat, too. Viola is crushing it again, 20 years in. Both so famous I don't even have to use their last names. It's about talent not skin color!

Just because I don't find that chick attractive? Please. I lived in Atlanta. I know what hot black women look like and she's not one of them.

This. Bria Myles is a perfect example of a darkskinned popular urban model that shits on Lupita.

Of course y'all had to use a young chick that twerks lol
Check Brittnebabe at least shorty is a fitness aficionado

And if you think colorism is some black woman whining tool please leave your small enclave and venture out because right now you sound like a racially tone deaf white person trying to say racism doesn't exist because Obama was president and Oprah is rich.
For one there are plenty of studies that show darker skin people get heavier sentences for crimes and are less likely to get hired.
And yes successful dark skin women exist but that doesn't mean the usual go to is light skin woman. If you want some entertainment examples just say go I don't mind schooling you brothers for free. I spread love Its the Brooklyn way lol.

And to the comment about dark skin men not whining is because in this weird racial game darker skin men of African descent are considered more manly so it often works in our benefit if you can walk the tight rope of being manly and approachable like an Idris or a Sidney. But can you see how that might work against darker skin women who are more likely not to have European features like their light skin sisters.

LOL @ "racially tone deaf." I'm not dark-skinned so I don't have a dog in this fight. But I do stand by what I said; maybe they're just busted/have no talent so let's blame the evil white man or the self-hating, colorstruck black man for not choosing meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Hold on a sec you honestly don't see the irony in your statement. So lets say a non black person said I'm not black I don't have a dog in this fight. Maybe they are uneducated and ghetto so they deserve to get no due process and shot maybe they none of them are qualified to have a job otherwise they'd have them.
Take a bow you illustrated perfectly why racism persists and will never die.
