And sometimes we place all African people on the same box, without thinking that Africa is a continent and that there are differences in the individual countries. Even in a small country like Senegal. Unfortunately these differences have sometimes lead to conflict. And we sre still not talking about colour.
I just thought of another woman who is a political pundit. Crystal Wright (A.K.A. Conservative Black Chick or GOPBlackChick) who is often on FOX News:
And what is she supposed to stand for? You mean she is "black"? Ok. My conclusion from this thread is that anyone who has even just one drop black blood in them is termed black in the US. It's all a matter if perspective and terminology. Over here people like her or Mariah Carey, Halle Berry, Alicia Keys etc are called mixed and the real black people (including the ones who have so little white blood you don't see it any more) are called black. In fact in her case people would probably ask something like "where did your parents come from" which apparently is becoming the polite way these days to determine someone's origin. If you tell a German "I'm black" and you look like this they will look at you funny and probably ask you where else you are from.
Geez, this thread. 1-Being European does not mean your DNA is biologically programmed to ensure you lack curves. Look at the old paintings of European women during The Renaissance. Most of them seem curvy by today's standards if not borderline fat. Did they have "some black in 'em or something?" Most likely not. Look at the Hollywood starlets of the 1940s through 1960s. The white female stars of today often look like school boys compared to them. So what's the deal? Eating habits change. The culture shifts in terms of what's considered beautiful. Exercise is developed to get rid of weight in parts of the body that your community doesn't typically like to see excess weight. Nutrition. Etc. Etc. A decade or so ago there was research which revealed that the UK on average had women with the greatest breast size (which means curves) and if you look at all the white busty pinup white girls in the UK you'll see that that average isn't necessarily being enhanced by the women of color over there. British white chicks are just atypically stacked. Plus there have always been curvy white chicks in the USA. It is just that for almost 50 years mainstream white media/culture have all but dictated that "excess" pounds on white chicks wasn't ideal. As a result the actresses and models picked to play the roles and fill covers of magazines had to fit those standards....which reinforced to the females coming behind them that they had to look that way too. For the white women who wouldn't conform and had really curvaceous bods? They were passed over, relegated to B films, cheesy TV shows and porn magazines. 2-People keep thinking of black people as being all the same. However on the African continent itself there were black people who were as slim/skinny as the stereotypical Europeans we think of today. Body types differed among people of African descent and that included African Americans. Go check out the YouTube videos of clips from 1970s Soul Train. The big-ass, fat thighs video ho types that seem to be the ideal standard of beauty for many African Americas are nowhere to be found in those clips. People from those times who comment on those YouTube clips credit that to the type of food being eaten then compare to now. 3-There is no evidence that the number of light skin black people you see in America is the exclusive result of white slave owners who raped or had sexual relations with black women before Emancipation. It is so tiring to keep reading this nonsense. That was such a small sampling of the black community and so long ago that it is ridiculous to come to that conclusion. If after slavery the black community had remained completely segregated with other communities up to this day then such an assumption could better hold water. However the black community never completely shut itself off from the rest of society and as a result this thing called miscegenation kept happening only this time with black men and white women being added to the regular mix of black-white sexual interaction. And African Americans hooked up with Native Americans, Latinos and Asians. Also they had sex with blacks of mixed racial heritage who originated from other countries and thus had no history of some white slave owner impregnating a black ancestor in their family history. These factors, miscegenation POST-slavery, are at least as crucial in the variety of shades of blackness one can find currently among African Americans. 4-Obama is considered "black" not just because of the unique American culture of standardization of who is black, but because he explicitly said himself that he is black. That's the identity he chose. Granted he came up during a time in which the term bi-racial was not the norm as a classification, but nonetheless as a young man he came to a point in which he concluded that he was a black man and went forward from there. He identify as black while at the same time acknowledging his white heritage (both racial and cultural). Decades from now maybe the next bi-racial politician will see it different and identify as bi-racial. But that's not how Obama saw it. Period. 5-Ashley Graham has claimed in the past that facially speaking she looks racially ambiguous but that doesn't mean she has discernible non-white blood flowing through her veins. She wouldn't be the first white person to look a little exotic even if she was of pure European stock. Her darker color may be the result of her tanning all the time. Or she can have some Italian, Greek or Spanish (as in SPAIN) ancestry. That would still make her all white. I've noticed over the years that some people here have a limited grasp on what nationalities fall under the White bracket ( :::cough::: Kardashians ::cough::: ). Yes, people of European descent can be of different shades too. Graham grew up in Nebraska. Maybe she has Native American ancestry. But even if that is the case that doesn't mean that her body type is the result of that Native American bloodline. Any suggestion of that is bullshit.
I have added more to my post above...sometimes I have some issues when posting from my phone so I had to post and then go back and edit. If she sees herself as black, then fine!
She is losing weight. I have learned that some colors on clothing can make one look thinner. But it depends on the person's body.
