I am glad he came out about this. I know it is difficult for male survivors to talk about such things considering how we are often silenced.

But, all in all in seems like black men are leading the way when it comes to pushing hollywood towards diversity for both people of color and women.

I remember Sally Field praising black male actors for leading the way.

I just find it disheartening that very few seem to talk about what happened to this man. But, it is what it is I guess.

I wish I could go back in time & see if Sally Field got pushback on Twitter for saying that. Usually when celebrities/liberals make statements like this they're specfically praising BW. You rarely ever see BM getting praised like that. So I'd imagine vocal segments of Black Twitter hated this statement from Sally Field.

I will repeat what a Latino guy who became the first non-white male to join an all-white fraternity in the University of Florida told me, "Racism is not often overt, but it is mostly covert."

It's been about 20 years since I met that young man and hadn't forgotten it. I still haven't forgotten it because it is true.

A friend of mine told me a few years ago that he was thinking of moving to the south when he retired. (He's spent much of his life traveling all over and lived in many different areas)I was surprised and asked why. He said he'd much rather deal with the overt than the covert.

Your friend would rather deal with racism head on if he decides to move south. It is his decision. He had traveled. I understand that he probably has seen and experienced a great deal in his travels.

Yes. He grew up in California and lives here now. I used to have conversations with him about doing business in the south and how that was for him. He said at first it was difficult but once he figured out how it was he just would send in a representative who appeared to be what was more acceptable to the area. His feeling was, don't take it personally, the deal is more important and would do what it took. I'm not so sure I could be on board with living in the environment...but then lately I've come to understand the sentiment more and more.

Funny that some can't see the parallel in some of these things. Sexual harassment has always existed and probably always will. That doesn't mean it's ok or should be tolerated in anyway. I think the things Jane Fonda has been saying are interesting. The whole casting couch thing isn't new....I heard about it as a child. I remember when old time actresses/actors spoke about it. Interesting to me that someone on a wwbm forum would question members bring up any racial issues with all this too. I think the more appropriate question would be why not rather than why someone would want to discuss racial elements in it all.

Personally, sometimes, I preferred when it was more out in the open. We knew who to avoid and how it was if we chose to go down certain roads or into certain offices. Some felt it was worth it and others did not. When I dealt with it in a corporation 7 years ago it was more covert and more of a situation where I was questioning things. Years before it was clear and I would walk away, report, or whatever. There wasn't really any ambiguity though. This is probably why I have a tough time with some of the stuff that's being brought out now. Why wait so long? Many of the women who are speaking out have been at the top and were some time ago. He had no power over them. Clearly it was "known" how he was (and others). I watched something where the one gal who's saying rape was raped 2x as in she went into the room with him again after he raped her the first time, but she was really drunk. There's just much more to this.

If the intent truly is to take down or even change the good ole boy network.....this just isn't the way to do it. As they say - know your audience and what you are dealing with.

I absolutely do not agree with the idea of just believe anyone who claims rape. I've seen too many situations where it's been called out for various other reasons and was NOT true. I do think it's appalling what sex crime victims are often put through and quite frankly was not up to dealing with it all myself. And before anyone jumps to assumptions - I've experienced sexual harassment, I've been molested, and I've been raped.

I believe that if someone says that they have been assaulted in any way it cannot be ignored. I am sorry for what had happened to you.

Comedian Carlos Mencia once said that living in the United States is like being in a fraternity; everyone gets mistreated from time to time. I haven't heard anyone call me the n-word in a long time. But I have heard it said among a lot of different people, especially Latinos as well as black people.

When the show The Boondocks was on, I remember laughing and cringing at the same time because of the many times I heard the n-word being used more than any other racial epithets. Slurs against women came a close second.

Knowing who is a racist is not as important to me because they sometimes reveal it themselves. I worked with a couple of guys years ago. One guy showed me many books on Nazi Germany and he had an affinity for the Nazis and the Confederate army during the Civil War. He believed that if the South had won the war slavery would've ended after a couple of years. He kept saying that this country needs another Adolph Hitler. He was removed from the job allegedly because of his mental state. The other guy was older. He was direct at all times and he sometimes was a little ornery. I had heard rumors that he was a racist. If he was, I didn't see it. He never said anything to me that suggested that he was. He often said that he is a work in progress. Well, I guessed that he was. I accepted it and him.
I accepted both men. People are going to have extreme views about things. It is how they feel and nothing or no one is going to convince them otherwise.

Agreed. Unfortunately, there are those who have used the claim as a threat or for their own version of attack though. So, the idea of just blanketly believing ANY and ALL claims doesn't work. The whole idea of guilty until proven innocent hasn't worked in any realm ever - we see this on a daily basis.

Thank you for the kind word.

I'm sorry, my gf have experienced it as well. Right in front of my face last week, guy didn't know she was with me and thought that he can get away with it. Good thing other guys there didn't think it was cool for him to grab her ass and threw him out of the party or I would've had a charge against me.

I don't want anyone that doesn't suffer from political and confirmation bias to get what I post on here twisted. I believe proper steps needs to be taken, rape kits work. Recordings like what the woman did to Weinstein work. But Harvey has also said that sex was consensual and as I have said before I believe some of these women slept with him with no problem and he probably just got big headed from that and overzealous. Let's not take away that some of these women also commented on his looks like that mattered. And to your point of people knowing I noticed that the men that probably knew and didn't say something for years what about these women as well who WEREN'T harassed by these men in Hollywood. Kevin Spacey was showing attraction to young boys, but people are STILL afraid to point out the pedophilia part of Hollywood.

Racism and Sexism go hand in hand with powerful white men. The slavemasters weren't only agitators and practitioners of racism, but these men were also sexist. They used to beat their white wives and slept with and raped women of color especially black women. And some of them would even get sex out of the black male slaves. So when I say it's a culture of powerful white men in this country it's because it is. Black men aren't innocent when it comes to these things I think we all know that. But to think we are apart of that culture especially in Hollywood is wrong. The ONLY reason why they would want protect isolated incidents from black men like Bill Cosby is to protect THEIR culture from being exposed. But hey he's black so some didn't mind throwing him out there and talking like they are so innocent.

When I worked security for this large corporation, anytime we get a message that an employee had put out a restraining order on their significant other, were all on high alert because the the employee and their supervisor informs us of the situation. The logic being is that if one employee is in danger, were all in danger. We had to treat it like that. If no physical violence occurred, there sometimes was damage to the emploee's car(smashed windows, scratches and flat tires). After the investigation, the matter had to be dealt with by the employee and the offender. There wasn't a whole lot that we could do except offer an escort or drive them to their vehicle when they leave to go home.

Weinstein, Cosby and Trump have all been accused of the same or very similar crimes, based on the accusations of multiple women. Yet Weinstein and Cosby have been tried and convicted in the court of popular opinion, while Trump got elected president. Those that would condemn Weinstein and Cosby and not Trump are the very definition of despicable hypocrisy.

I posted this in a different thread but thought it might also be relevant here:

    http://big.assets.huffingtonpost.com/tabsHPSexualHarassment20171012.pdf

For people who find polls too nerdy, the relevant info for this thread revolves around two questions, one which asks if you find the allegations against Harvey Weinstein credible, and another which asks if you find the sexual harassment allegations against Trump to be credible. The party breakdowns are like this:

    Harvey Weinstein:
69% of Democrats find allegations credible
    61% of Republicans do

    Donald Trump:
69% of Democrats find allegations credible
    18% of Republicans do

Just thought this provides a stark example of how neither side is perfect, but there is definitely a great deal more tribalism going on one side than the other. When Harvey Weinstein was met with dozens of sexual harassment allegations he was removed from his own company, and many Democrats publicly disavowed him, even returning money he had donated. When Donald Trump was met with dozens of sexual harassment allegations... he was elected President by Republican voters.

There is definitely no valid "both sidesism" to be found here.

Ehhh......The Hollywood elites marked Harvey Weinstein as a sanctioned target. So of course the left is gonna throw him under the bus. Trump as President is good business ratings & Viewiership-wise for the MSM, so they're never gonna go hard on him as they could. For example, I mentioned earlier in this thread that a couple weeks ago or so that Trump was quietly arraigned for 1 of his sexual assault cases. I didn't see the media trying make that front page or breaking news.

Well it worked. I completely forgot about that. I don't watch a lot of these talking heads in MSM, I get my a lot of my info and news online from people like Anissa Naouai, Anya Parampil and Abby Martin.

He was not "quietly arraigned for one of his sexual assault cases"..

His lawyers were asked to turn over some files by a former Apprentice contestant's lawyer, who is suing him civily for defamation of character. after claiming that he tried to hug and kiss her in his hotel room and she rebuffed him, and he responded to the allegation that she was lying.
Your comment implies he was "arraigned for sexual assault". Not true at all.

But really now, The MSM, the DNC, Hillbilly, every Liberal and some Republicans, along with this place, would have had an apocalyptic reaction for infinity if that was the case.
24/7 coverage, hysteria, aethesist liberals on their knees crying tears of joy to God (after screaming at the sky tomorrow, of course), lol.

Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick has been accused of raping actress Kristina Cohen.

The 27-year-old Ladies Like Us actress took to Facebook on Monday night alleging that Westwick forcibly held her down and raped her at his home three years ago.

In her post, Cohen said she had gone to the 30-year-old British actor's home for dinner with her producer boyfriend at the time when she took a nap in his guest bedroom.

'I was woken up abruptly by Ed on top of me, his fingers entering my body. I told him to stop, but he was strong. I fought him off as hard as I could but he grabbed my face in his hands, shaking me, telling me he wanted to fuck me,' she wrote.

'I was paralyzed, terrified. I couldn't speak, I could no longer move. He held me down and raped me.

'The producer put the blame on me, telling me I was an active participant. Telling me that I can't say anything because Ed will have people come after me, destroy me, and that I could forget about an acting career. Saying there's no way I can go around saying Ed 'raped' me and that I don't want to be 'that girl'.'

Westwick has not yet responded to the allegations but DailyMail.com has contacted his representative for comment.

The actress said she had tried to convince her producer boyfriend, who was friends with Westwick, to leave prior to the alleged assault but he had asked her to stay a while longer.

'I wanted to leave when Ed suggested 'we should all fuck'. But the producer didn't want to make Ed feel awkward by leaving,' she said.

Ed insisted we stay for dinner. I said I was tired and wanted to leave, trying to get out of what was already an uncomfortable situation. Ed suggested I nap in the guest bedroom. The producer said we would stay for just another 20 more minutes to smooth everything over, and then we could leave.'

Cohen said she was encouraged to speak out three years after the alleged attack following the outpouring of stories this past month in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

She at the time of the alleged assault she was in a dark place.

'My mom was dying of cancer and I didn't have the support system or time to process and deal with the aftermath of the rape. I buried my pain and guilt to make space for the onslaught that came after my mom's death, just three months later,' she said.

'Even now, I grapple with feelings of guilt. Unfounded worry that in some way I was to blame. I don't know where these feelings come from.

'I've grown considerably in the three years since my assault, so to revisit is painful.'

Westwick has been dating former America's Next Top Model contestant Jessica Serfaty for the past few months.
