http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-unlocks-family-secrets-Carly-Simon-more.html Surprise...surprise...
The first song of Carly Simon's that I discovered when I was little was That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be. It was that perfect song to listen to at night while the radio was on. It had something about it that was compelling to me as a small boy. Maybe it was the piano or the strings. Then the song Nobody Does It Better became a favorite. There were quite a few white female singers who had that black vocal style like Barbara Streisand, Carol King, Joni Mitchell, Toni Tenille, Janis Joplin,Bette Midler and others. I had once thought that Barbara Streisand was black. This is a surprise, indeed. Carly Simon, the daughter to the founder of the publishing firm Simon & Shuster, 10% black.
She's famous for 'You're so Vain', a song many speculated was about Actor Warren Beatty. She finally revealed years later that only the 2nd verse was about him and the other verses were about two other men. She was also once married to musician, James Taylor. My favorite song of hers is a Doobie Brothers cover..
I didn't think that ever happened. Sammy Davis,Jr. converted to Judaism. Many black performers back in the days had Jewish managers and agents.
