Daisey Ridley, or Rey has a relationship with John Boyega (Finn) in the "Force Awakens" She kisses him on the forehead while Finn is resting and asleep... Do the Star Wars writers shy away from a romance between them so as not to offend the broader audience and lose money...? First IR kiss in Sci-Fi genre...? TV show: William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols in Star trek http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/startalk/videos/a-controversial-star-trek-kiss/ Theatrical movie: Charleton Heston and Rosalyn Cash: OmegaMan:
It's hard to say where they are going from here with Rey and Finn's relationship. In the Force Awakens they had a cute flirty thing going on that led people to believing they were going to be a couple that's why they got a big positive response from the fans "shipping" them as a couple. They could be going slow and steady and in The Last Jedi they'll probably finalize it, I wouldn't be surprised if they do... but also I wouldn't be surprise if they don't. Because at the end of the day happy interracial intimate relationships between black men and white women are still Hollywood's biggest taboo.
Which is crazy when you think about it. In terms of traditional romance its far more accepted and celebrated for two men or even two women (race doesn't matter in either case) than for a black man and a white woman to be together on screen.
When I finally got around to watching the movie A United Kingdom, people in the audience were clapping at the end including my girlfriend and I. It wasn't a big applause, but it was good one and I was just thinking wow this is a rare Interracial Love Story with an actual happy ending. Wasn't use to seeing not only an Interracial couple the focal point of the movie, but it was done beautifully.
I have a feeling the homeboy would have a gay IR kiss but prove me wrong if it is not the case. I doubt there would be a good IR story in Star Wars:The Last Jedi.
